    Thanks, Jerry
I’ve come to the conclusion that my projects are so efx heavy:
with so many seqs filled with filters and motion
that that is exactly what’s been slowing me down.
So I made a new project with just the few sequences
I’m working on ~ which comes up in much under a minute.

Thanks for getting back to me, Jerry.
Running FCP on iMac i7, 8 gigs memory and a Lacie 1 tera…
Project is less than 40mg (tho efx heavy, filters, motion etc.)
Ran Disk Util verify and repair ~ no problem
(Have left a trail of old related and unrelated projs around ~
    but this one seems clean…)
So why does it take 5 minutes to “read proj” at start up???

Sorry, Mr. Harrington, I’ll try to be less vague.
Let’s say I have a photo of a man. The photo is square. I want to isolate the form –the shape — of the man and bring it into FCP (so that I can ultimately move it around over an ongoing video image.)
What steps do I have to take in Photoshop to just bring over the form of the man? Please help me further clarify if this is still vague.

  • Sorry, my first post on CCow and I inadvertantly copied an early draft.
    Should have read:
About to start a stills-heavy doc, lots of compositing, use of motion function.
Will an imac quad i5 with 8gigs be enough to handle project or do I want an i7?
Getting started soon is the issue not price difference. Can pick one up apple store today or wait a couple of weeks to get i7 from Shanghai, hoping there are no traumas to navigate.
