I’m making a doc combining public domain movies off dvds with live action (avchd).
Of course I need optimum quality so please be so kind as to comment on my flowchart:
    Timeline in FCP7: prores 422 / 1920×1080 / 23.98 fps
Using HANDBRAKE off dvd > High Qual H264
    Then MPEG Streamclip — Prores 422 @ 108i
(rather than 720p or unscaled — Do I want to de-interlace?)
Then restoring image to original shape using motion in FCP7.
(Also, using FCPX to convert out of camera AVCHD material to MOV. > FCP7)
    Thank you, mmg

Streamclip already does what Handbrake does, doesn’t it? Why are you converting twice?

Streamclip converts some of these files, but not all.

Use COmpressor to upscale and convert the files you rip as H.264s. Turn on the FRAME CONTROLS and set them to BEST. COnvert the frame rate there too. I had to do this a few times in my career…two projects in the last month alone.

Thanks Shane, I’ll give it a try.
What frame rate do you recommend, 23.98 or 29.
    from FCP7 timeline on down?
