I have single gtx480 driving 2 monitors and doing cuda processing. But it’s hackintosh. On a Mac pro you can try gtx470 from macvidcards. It’s the most powerful card you can put into your Mac pro. (they have 480 as well, but it needs external power supply)

The one and only thing you need to tweak at red settings per clip is white balance (when there are no DOP errors). It’s better to leave saturation at 1 and lower it at clip or track level using separate node if needed.

You can’t relink in FCP. Save XML from FCP, name it “fromFCP”. Download Clipfinder from https://www.daun.ch/software/Clipfinder_2.2.zip
It’s free.Open it.
1. Go to “Tools” menu and choose “Run conform from FCP XML”
2. Point it to your saved from FCP XML.
3. Enter the name for new XML (“toFCP” for instance)
4. Check “replace with P proxy” radio button
!!!DO NOT CHOOSE “REPLACE WITH R3D” option unless you are going to open it in Adobe Premiere
4. Click small + and point to the directory containing all your .RDC folders
5. Click “Run conform”
6. Open resulting “toFCP” XML as a new sequence in final cut and save the EDL from this sequence. (EDL will point to _P proxy files – it’s ok. If you wish, you can textedit-replace _P with R3D.Go to resolve BROWSE-“load folders and subfolders from EDL” – this will load clips only mentiond in EDL

I’ve flashed it with fresh firmware – it helped with eizo cg241w but not with panasonic. Checking uncheking EDID button has no effect. Tried both DVI-DVI connection and DVI-HDMI, tons of cables, nothing worked out. Switching to PAL – picture ok! Switch 1080, 720, p, i, psf – plasma switches to “no signal” mode.

You better take it for test first. I have HDlink pro and it works with my old pioneer plasma, but doesn’t with new Panasonic TH-42PF20. It shows PAL but none of the HD formats. Neither from FCP nor from Davinci. I’ve sent it to local bm reseller (who sold me that) and as they checked hdlink, their response was – the box is ok – your plasma is wrong. When decklink connected to plasma through hdmi out – everything works, from PAL to 1080p.

1. Better handling of XML and EDL. I often received unusable EDLs from FCP when clipnames were lost or mixture of timecode-edgecode prevents me from fast and painless conform. Premiere lets you relink not to _p.mov but to R3Ds by itself and use your nice cuda GPU to debayer it. Saving EDL from this cures timecode mistakes.
2. Copy-paste timeline from-to AfterEffects for rotoscoping, compose and so on.
3. Works even on my old black plastic Macbook.
4. You can render out DPX, which means you can conform in Premiere – render out DPX, and scene detect at resolve.
5. You can edit red files without need of generating Prores proxies – it playsback r3d (system should be fast – raid, cuda). The only problem here to make editor forget about FCP )))

Premiere did the job. FCP didn’t. Actually I’m on the way of cheating FCP with Adobe – it’s much more useful for getting sequence ready for grading.

1. Decklink driver version should be latest. Up to 7.9.4 was unstable – I had video out freeze and then crash. Before 7.9.6 I had crash two-three times during the day. Especially after Fullres renders (my tv shows are mostly 4k red). With 7.9.6 no crashes for some days at all.
2. Tracking window on a very long clip can cause crash. Do not know why. When track anything set softness to zero. When finished set it back.
3. Working with 4k I set debayer to 1/4th for grading not more, when rendering set fullres premium and after rendering reboot the computer.
4. Usually rebuild all the proxy movs by REDRushes or Clipfinder.

It’s better to send it for reflashing – threre are guys who resolder ROM chip and flash it with mac stuff (the half of the ROM is taken with grey apple image for start up – hehe). In Moscow reflashing cost me 80$. Maybe the guys who sell reflashed 285 cards at ebay could possibly flash your gtx, ask them. Or send it over to Moscow )))
