Correct Wide Screen playback is fraught with challenges, but before we can go there, I am confused about the properties of your source video…some things dont make sense like 486 and low res quicktime and well as 1.2.

There is no magic preset for all scenarios. Understanding how compression and compression applications work is necessary to get the best results.

In the Adobe Media encoder choose H264 as the Format and “Apple Ipod Video Large” as the Preset. Change the “Bitrate Encoding” setting to VBR 2 Pass. Premiere is not as good at this as Procoder or Squeeze.

Add a third hard drive for scratch discs and at least 450w power supply.

Often video appears darker on a PC monitor than it actually is…make your adjustment and preview on a TV if your target is DVD.

Best bet would be a DV camcorder, but failing that, the next best bet is to connect your HDD cam to a analog/digital converter via composite cables and the converter to your PC via firewire.

The issue may be with a faulty hard drive, cable, port or external USB bus. Even an external drive’s power supply can cause issues.
If “C” drive is your System drive it is probably OK. Try temporarily changing Scratch disks to C: drive and moving captured video to it as well.
