The source video is extremely highly compressed. Is it from a still camera or an inexpensive video camera? I suspect that your quad core cant decompress it smoothly. The codec may also contribute to the problem. Download GSpot (free) and open the video in it to reveal the codec.
The recommended minimum quad core for AVCHD is 2.6. -
Need more info;
1.Properties of your video (use Premiere).
2. What Sequence Preset did you choose?
3. Your computer specs including hard drive configuation. -
Is there a menu option in the camera = DV-in??

The easiest method would be to use “Shadows and Highlights” effect, but that will reduce all the highlights by an equal amount.
More effective but may involve a bit of work would be to duplicate the clip and place it in a superior track directly above the original, apply a 4 Point garbage matte to the superior clip to isolate just the bright spot. Apply the Shadows and Highlights effect to the superior track to reduce only the highlights.
Now if the spot moves or camera pans, this is where the work begins. You will need to animate the position of the 4 points of the garbage matte to follow the spot.
An animated track matte can also work well.Prevention is always easier (Zebra feature of the camcorder).

Likely the audio is Dolby and premiere cant decode it. On the PC side we would copy the adac3dec.dll from Encore’s Program folder into Premiere’s to fix that.

What version of QT are you using? Some versions have caused serious issues with Premiere. I am using 7.3.1 and all is well.

Deinterlacing video in CS4 works best if you turn on “Maximum render quality” in the fly out menu of the Media Encoder. Render times will increase quite a bit.

Make sure your external deck or camera is turned off and “Desktop Audio” is selected in Playback Settings.

Just beneath the Work Area Bar could be a red, green, yellow lines over parts or all of your sequence…or nothing at all. What do you see?

I suspect a bit of corrupt asset on the timeline. Export the first half using the Work Area bar, then the second half. When one half fails, divide it into 2 exports to try and narrow down where the failure is occurring.
