The Presets are just a starting point to create custome presets. Sounds like you are in the right direction, except there is no AVI…just Windows Media.

Most folks just suggest to the viewer “Right click and choose Save Target as…” to download the video. You could Zip the video files to force a download.

Windows Media Video (.wmv) is Microsoft’s video compression done in Pro’s Media Encoder or a free encoder from Microsoft. The higher the bitrate the better, to a certain point. 2 pass Bitrate VBR at 480×360 at 1 mbps should work well.

Pro cant effectively export QT files for the web. The Sorenson Basic codec is lame. Windows media Video or Real Media will work much better. Video resolution should remain 4:3 and divisible by 16, like 480×360. Bitrate between 250 and 1000 kbps can be used, but the restraint is the target’s connection.
If you really need QT, then buy Squeeze…it has the Sorenson Pro codec which is fine. -
Click the “Restore Down” button in Pro’s upper/right corner ( you know…the icon next to the red X), then drag the edge of Pro’s interface over to your second monitor. Arrange things as would like and then save the workspace (Window>Workspace>Save Workspace.

MainConcept has a plug-in for Pro that enables capturing and editing Mpeg 2. While the editing works fine, I have had several serious capturing issues. There are dozens of consumer hardware solutions that typically dont work well enough for real life, but Ospray cards have a good rep.

It buffers about 10 seconds on my PC before playing. Your connection might be skinny.
The other alternative involves an RSTP server, a “Hinted” for streaming file with several “audiences” included. The server will determine the connections speed and deliver the appropriate audience.

“capturing” from a DV cam is simple data transfer with no changes.
Exporting decisions involve the target audience and the delivery media or archiving back to DV tape. DV is too big to just leave on the harddrive for local playback. Windows media Video is probable the best format for local playback at 2.1 mbps. -
Fields is (are?) VERY important. Mucking with those settings can cause strobed motion on a TV. “Lower” is default and correct for video from a DV cam.

7 mbps constant bitrate should work better than 5.
