Am a moderate newbie with Premiere and have done a search to see if the answer to my question is already on the board and did not find it. I imagine it has been answered before and I miised the post somehow or another, so – before you flame me for asking a repeated question 🙂 forgive me. Thanks

I am running a Pentium 4 3.4 Mgz Windows XP (sp 2) machine. My video card is a 128 bit Radeon X300 256 mb card with dual monitor support. One connection is regualar monitor, the second is digital. I have 2 monitors connected to the system and when both are on, they are working as monitor 1 and 2. I can move a window from one monitor to the other.

BUT — when in Premiere Pro, all I see is my wallpaper on monitor 2. My original desire and reason for the second monitor was when I am working in PP, I want to see the playback (output) on monitor 2. I have looked in Adobe Premiere Classroom in a Book, but I can’t seem to find the answer as to what I need to do. I have looked in monitor properties, video output etc… and can not find what I need to do.

Can someone please enlighted me? (If that’s possible). I can go through my video cam to the tv as a monitored output, but I would like it up and running all the time.

Thanks for any help in advance.

With dual monitors, the only thing you can do in Premiere Pro is to stretch the entire workspace onto the 2nd monitor (to do this, make sure your application is not maximized). Doing this will allow you to customize and enlarge certain windows in Premiere that can be viewed alot better. There is no option in Premiere that will output your sequence onto another monitor (unless you drag the monitor view onto the 2nd screen and enlarge it – my current video card can’t handle it). For that you’ll need your dv camcorder with firewire connected to the pc, and connected to a tv/monitor (as you work, you should frequently refer to the output on a tv/monitor, since looking at the computer screen will not give you an accurate result on how it will actually look).

Click the “Restore Down” button in Pro’s upper/right corner ( you know…the icon next to the red X), then drag the edge of Pro’s interface over to your second monitor. Arrange things as would like and then save the workspace (Window>Workspace>Save Workspace.

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone looking to do a dual monitor set up in at least Premiere Pro creative cloud, you can go to Preferences/Playback, and under “Video Device” put a check mark next to both of your monitors, then click ok. Premiere will display a full screen of either the Program or Source monitor, which ever is active.
