April 18, 2015 at 3:52 am in reply to: Trying to recreate an open shutter effect for a motion trailThanks Dave.
A friend had suggested that effect too.
I layered it up with some TC shine and particles. Worked a treat.
Thanks

Heya, yeah I think I was just overthinking it.
What I do these days is either create a layer with a bunch of animation. Or if it’s more complex, I create a pre-comp with a bunch of layers with a bunch of animation.
Then I just create a bunch of layers and offset them by 1, 3, 6 frames… whatever you like. Sometimes I end up with 50 offset layers but it makes for some really cool animations.
The advantage with putting the animation in a precomp is that it’s easy to change once for all the offset layers.
Or another advantage is that you can change individual colours of each comp using Tint or Fill… so again, you only need one precomp with all your animation.
Often the set up is more manual, such as rotating each layer by 5 degrees or moving it’s position by a few pixels each time but you could easily write an expression for that… or do it manually… either way, that’s how I’ve been working with this technique I was trying to solve a while back.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Adam. Ending up solving this using Legacy XRefs and offsetting the animation.
Did the trick.

February 27, 2013 at 4:32 am in reply to: Problem With Bend Deformers For Rig Of Leather Book CoverHi Adam, thanks for getting back to me.
What’s really strange is that it doesn’t happen on the other side.
What’s even stranger is that if I put ‘Front_Cover_Bend’ on top of ‘Back_Cover_Bend’, then the problem happens on the opposite side.
The fact that the conflict happens only on one side, and that side it happens on can be changed by placing one bend deformer on top of the other, makes me think it must be fixable…
I just don’t know how to fix it. Like I mentioned, my friend helped me rig it and everything works great except for this, which I’m hoping is just a hurdle.

Thanks so much.
I don’t know if this next question is pushing the friendship, but is it possible to ease with expressions?
Thanks again Dan 🙂 🙂 🙂

Absolutely awesome!!! That worked a treat.
Yet to test how it goes on 50 letters flying around the place but so far that’s a great solution.
Thanks again Dan

Hi Dan
Thanks for your response and your honesty in regards to the complexity of solving this…
What I’m trying to do is rotate a bunch of letters in space that start fast and then slow down later on in my animation.
I was hoping to have each one with a slightly different speed and then control their velocity as a group via a slider.
Is there any other way I could approach this? Or do you think you could possibly have a crack at explaining it to me? Or point me to a particular example on your site?
Thanks again Dan, I really appreciate your help on this forum 🙂
