Try using a G-tech G-Raid and the Firewire 800 port….

I have about 10 of these drives and they never miss a beat…
The USB drives will be too slow for most editing applications. -
Just export separate audio files of what you need….
Work on those files and then place those back in your timeline.
Mute your original files. Keep them their as reference…. -

I usually export uncompressed QuickTimes as 10 bit.
I import that into the AVID and render to the codec needed (not co deck) -
I finally bought PowerPoint for my MAC.
KeyNote is much better but most of my clients use PowerPoint
and want all of their funky transitions and builds like they
built them in PP.
So I use SnapZ Pro to capture the screen playback from PP.https://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
It works great and all I have to do is bring the file into
Final Cut – add audio and can then export the file
into whatever. -

G-raids are great – full playback with ProRes and iMac
I own about 10 of them with no failure.

Good question.
With my luck I would spend $3000 and get geared up
and then – Apple would release a Blu-Ray upgrade for $300.
If they don’t then I will send the clients to you.
