This is an image of two 960×720 video files scaled down and placed next to eachother in FCP. What I’d like to know is if there’s a way to render this without any of the black? I don’t want the image to be distorted or cropped either. Is this possible?

    I’m confused..

What is it you want to end up with? An aspect ratio which is only the red images? Or do you want to fill the screen size your picture is showing?

I want the final video file to be the aspect ratio of the red images; none of the black on the top and bottom.

You need to start by building a 16×9 sequence.

Okay, do I keep all the presets the same or just check the anamorphic box? Keep in mind, I don’t want an anamorphic file (one that gets squeezed then unsqueezed by a DVD player) but a video file that’s undistorted and that shape. I’m not sure if this is even possible.

    What is your delivery format?

I’m rendering this to be uploaded online; that’s why I’d like it to not contain the “letterboxing” and just be the shape of the images.

So just make a new sequence of the shape, and size you want. If your images are widescreen, then it would have to be 32:9. You’ll have to do your own math. I’d start with how wide you want it to be on your web page. Say, 1000 pixels. The height would be around 562 pixels. Make a 1000×562 seq with a STD codec like animation, and make it square pixels. Drop them in and export to whatever format desired. H.264 being the logical choice for qt or flv.

    Not Anamorphic.
You have to do a 16×9 Square Pixels sequence.
The sides must keep the 16×9 proportion.
So you can choose any size which wide/heigh= 16×9.
For example 160×90, or 640×360, or 1280×720, or..
That will always look properly 16×9 in any computer screen or LCD monitor.

PS: Anamorphic is not a kind of pixel, but a way of displaying pixels.

To me, you already have what you need. Simply crop off the black parts when you export through Compressor, Squeeze, or whatever you use for final Web compression. Best to crop to dimensions divisible by 16, 8, or at least by 4.
