I think you can download a free trial of AECS3 from Adobe’s site and use it for 30 days… that would help you for this project at least, you’ll still have to upgrade eventually. I once saw a tutorial that showed how to open an AE7 project in AE6.5 by modifying the aep file in a text editor. I think there are just too many new features like Layer Styles, Shape Layers, etc for you to do the same with a CS3 project. AE7 wouldn’t know what to do with those new features.

  • This would be a snap with Mocha… if you can’t get a copy of that, and motiontracking doesn’t get you there, use the Corner Pin effect and eyeball it… if the motion on the TV isn’t that complicated it shouldn’t take that long.

Yeah, I ended up ripping the DVD using a similar application. It would have been more convenient and quicker to shuttle through the DVD and grab the clips I needed. It was kind of embarrassing fumbling around in front of a client. My own fault for not doing a test capture before she showed up. Like I said in my earlier post, I did this a few months ago and it worked fine….

I’ve had good luck with MacTheRipper to rip DVDs.

I’m having a similar problem with “Capture Now”. I’m trying to do a rolling capture of some footage from a DVD player. After about 2 seconds I get this error: “Capture Now has reached the end of the tape. All existing footage between the point where you started the capture and the end of the tape was captured successfully.”… I end up with a 20 frame clip in my “Capture Scratch” folder but nothing in the actual Bin.

The easiest way to do this is to project a binary graphic on to a model’s face with an LCD projector. If thats not practical for you you’ll need to try to pull it off with a 3D app. It would be a bear to try in AE. You might be able to get something with displacement maps, but it’ll be hit and miss.

Have you tried the “Audio Waveforms” effect? (Its in Effects/Generate) Apply it to a solid layer and use an audio layer as the source and your good to go. A little twiddling and you should get what your looking for.

That would be the SECRET prefs. Long live the goat. I believe Scheret was an obscure French philosopher.
