  • Daniel,

Man, You know how to milk life out of an old system…

As I recall, V6 was quirky to begin with. There was little if any chance of “natively” editing (digitized) film at any frame rate other than 29.97. No 30 fps, no 24 fps. Just 29.97.

Are you exporting your EDL at 29.97 fps, or do you even have that option?

Have you tried the other EDL export options? Maybe try turning off the various channel options?

A last resort – export the program EDL using just one audio channel at a time, copied and pasted into another fresh program.

    Good Luck!

Just a thought – have you tried disabling all the other extensions, and restarting using just the M100 startup items via Extensions Manager?

Go slap him, Bob. And ask him if he still remembers Ohm’s Law.

And while you’re at it, slap all the poor fools who think computers do all the technical stuff for them. Slap those nincompoops who don’t know an Edison plug from an RCA, too – but I’d suggest using insulated gloves. Maybe hand them a soldering iron, stand back and watch the fun.

While you’re at it, slap yourself, too – on the back.

So much of this stuff is insanely complicated. It’s a lot more straightforward to pilot a 777 from Chicago to London than it is to edit your typical video project. It’s miracle enough to fly above the clouds. There, you’ve got lots of smart people watching you, guiding you and telling you what to do.

Go ahead – master a finished program for HDTV and SD broadcast, DVD, multiple web flavors, with closed captioning and 4:3 crops from the 16:9 original, in stereo and 5.1 (don’t forget the PAL master) – with all the crappy work out there, it gives a new dimension to a job well done. That assumes it gets done, makes air, and you get paid.

Ohhhh – you want it on You-Tube?

A quick question: have you used Compressor, or DVD Studio (especially the encoder function) lately?

I’ve had very strange issues with files created from Compressor or encoded with DVD Studio that are corrupt and cause the Finder to just vanish. This only happens when the “View” setting is on “list”, not on “icon” or “columns”, or sometimes when I export or save using certain applications.

Have you tried exporting to a different hard drive than the one that seems to crash on export? Maybe this will help, or at least provide another clue.

    Yo Allen-

Can you try importing the offenders at the Clip level rather than the Folder level? (I assume you have the P2 drivers loaded so you can import the original MXF files directly into FCP – very important)

Do these offender clips span two or more folders/P2 volumes? (If so, then you might need to re-import them directly into FCP. You may need the original TXT files from the P2 volumes to link the clips together seamlessly)

P2 voiumes are different from “normal” volumes, and the MXF file structure is not particularly straightforward either. When you open a P2 volume, you should see a “Contents” folder and a .txt file that – in my experience – MUST remain associated with the “Contents” folder in order for the P2/MXF file structure/import to work properly. No .txt file, no span, no import.

Also – did the XML’s come via e-mail? Try re-e-mailing as a ZIP file instead – I’ve had issues with the way different mail apps treat the XML attachment.

September 1, 2006 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Battery Life

We usually get a full day of on-again, off-again shooting with the HVX200 on P2 media (from two to eight cards-full of material) on two batteries, normally switching to the second batttery about two or three in the afternoon.

I’ve shot on one battery for three or four days as well, but the camera was only swithched on when it was actually “rolling”

I’d recommend carrying three fully-charged batteries, esp. if you’re going to keep the camera on all the time, for a day’s outing.

BTW – we “roll” film and we “roll” tape. What do you call recording to P2 solid state cards?

I still say “we’re rolling”, “Record” sounds so sterile and technical. Any other thoughts?
