Where did the video clip come from?
Camcorder (if so, which make/model) or something else? -

Try this free one..From the site:
WTCC II is a four function time code calculator that supports calculations, and conversions, in: NTSC, Drop-Frame, Non Drop-Frame, PAL, Film Feet and Frames, Decimal, Hex and Octal values. Additional features of WTCC include a “tape” and conversion between decimal and Roman numerals.I just tried it (XP Pro SP2) and it works as advertised. HTH.

Go to the Text option of the Media Generators tab.
Select the Transparent Text option and drag this to the timeline over top of your video.
You should see the video through the text and the background should be blue.
Click the Genereated Media option on the text event, go to the Properties tab and change the Background colour to black. To be “level legal” set the RGB values to 16-16-16.
This should give you what you want. -
If the AVI files are from a digital still camera (such as a Canon), it’s because you don’t have an MJPEG codec.
If the file is from a camcorder, all I can suggest is to install Vegas again. -
OK, now I’m confused.
First of all, what text preset in the Media generator tab are you using?
Next, what is it that you’re trying to do – show underlying video through text or vice-versa? -
Vegas Quake, a part of this script collection, should do what you want. Best of all, they’re free.

Open the text event, click the Properties tab and change the background color as desired.

Absolutely!! When you go to render, click on the Custom tab and change the presets as required. When you’re done, make sure to save the preset so that you can use it without having to go and change everything again.

Mike Crash has a number of different filters on his site that may be of some use to you.
Keep in mind that this is the kind of thing that you do in small increments as it’s easy to overdo and make things worse than they were.
