  • Changing color for transparent text?

Posted by Paul Gregory on October 23, 2006 at 10:44 pm

If you use the transparent text option in Vegas 5 you end up with a light blue background with the text displayed as a cut out so that you can see video through it. How do you change the blue to black?

    Thanks in advance

Open the text event, click the Properties tab and change the background color as desired.

I tried what you suggeted my it made no difference. When I went to properties it was already set to black. Maybe the confusion is because I said that the light blue was the background. It’s actually the forground & the text just shows through the holes left by the transparent text.

    Thanks in advance

    OK, now I’m confused.
First of all, what text preset in the Media generator tab are you using?
Next, what is it that you’re trying to do – show underlying video through text or vice-versa?

What I was hoping to end up with was a black screen which was cut outs in it in the shape of the text that I typed & through this typed area I can see the underlying video through each letter. In other words just the transparent type text as the preset produces but with black instead of blue.

    Thanks in advance

Go to the Text option of the Media Generators tab.
Select the Transparent Text option and drag this to the timeline over top of your video.
You should see the video through the text and the background should be blue.
Click the Genereated Media option on the text event, go to the Properties tab and change the Background colour to black. To be “level legal” set the RGB values to 16-16-16.
This should give you what you want.
