Martin, I use a JVC-HM750 that records in that format to SDHC cards and that’s the option I always choose for long clips. If they’re short ones, I just copy the MP4 files directly into Vegas.

I use the Sony XDCAM viewer but, in a pinch, VLC will play MXF files.

You’re welcome Dave. If all you’re rendering is images, then you don’t need to worry about space for the audio file.
However, I have read on numerous forums that you should never consistently go to the max bitrate for home made DVDs as a lot of cheap players can’t handle it and will either skip or refuse to play. My guess is that if these are just stills, then you’re ok but be forewarned about the possibility. -
Dave, my concern with your recommendation is that 9,800,000 is the maximum (audio + video) COMBINED (audio + video) allowable bitrate for a DVD. Your suggestion leaves no room for the audio file.
My rule of thumb is to go no larger than a CBR of 8,000,000 for less than a 70 min. DVD.
Anything larger and I use a bitrate calculator to determine optimum settings.
Some folks say that you can go as high as 8,500,000 but I stick to my rule.
I’ve burned thousands of DVDs over the years and have have never had any returned to me. -
I’m using Pro 10 and I do have it but I also have Sound Forge Pro 10 installed and I’m pretty sure that’s where it comes from.

The only way to make the transition go faster is to shorten the overlap time between the two events (what Vegas calls a clip).

You don’t say which version of Vegas you’re using (Pro or Movie Studio) but there’s a lot of training material for both products on the Sony site at https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/training -
The trimmer is only used to select a portion (video, audio or both) to add to the timeline.
You should see all three tracks on your timeline looking something like this. Pressing play will show you the video on your Preview window and let you hear the audio through your speakers.
