A full res screen shot or a short piece of the video would help us to help you.

You’re welcome Steve. I had read on another forum that the latest version added a lot of new render options that may help anyone using this codec.

Forget masks. Keyframes in the Pan/Crop window are what you want to use.

In the screenshot example below, I created keyframes at the 3, 4, 7, 8, 11 and 12 second marks.
Start off at the beginning with your image at the desired person. Create a new keyframe at the 3 sec. mark. This will hold the shot for 3 sec.
Now go the 4 sec. mark and move things to the next person. A keyframe is automatically created for you. Create a new keyframe at the 7 sec. mark. Repeat this process as many times as necessary.

The timings I used here are for instruction purposes only and will vary depending on your needs.

Remember to drag the event out longer than you need to create the keyframes. It can be shortened when you’re all done.

Make sure your image resolution (in pixels) is high enough to allow you to zoom in to the point that you want.
What I mean is that if this is for a standard def project, zoom in the desired first spot and check the numbers in the pan/crop menu on the left side. If they’re much lower than 720 x 480, you need a higher resolution images as the quality is already suffering.
If these are images from a digital still camera, you’ll be fine as most of them are at least 2400 x 1600 pixels.

Kelly, John Rofrano did a great tutorial on using this codec.

Be advised that if you follow the link that Steve gave, it will bring you to version 2.3.7 which has been replaced by 2.3.8

That’s correct. A Vegas 12 licence is for Vegas 12 only, nothing else.

[David Shirey] “I’m assuming if someone is buying the full version of Vegas 12 from scratch that the SCS website lets you download older versions? Or do you need to have old registration numbers from those versions for them to work?”

You can download and install any version of Pro 12 you want. The serial number works on all builds.
https://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/ is the place to get earlier builds.

There are several tutorials on the official Sony page at https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/training as well as on their Facebook and YouTube sites (links to these are at the bottom of the training page).
There are also several articles on that same page.

Based purely on what I’ve read, most users have their RAM preview set to either 200 MB. or 0 MB. and have found that this increases stability a lot.

[Darrin Smith] “The problem that it does create though is if one fades to black and then goes from black and then fades into the image, there is a little bit of overlap of black on some of the image as it fades.”

The filter that was applied ensures that blacks are at a level of 16 and not the default of 0. When you do a fade to black, you’re fading to 0. The workaround is to apply a separate track of black at 16, either under the faded events or to the entire program. I’ve created two solid color events, one for white at 235-235-235 and one for black at 16-16-16 and saved these as presets ready to dropped on my timeline any time I need them.

  • Thanks TJ. The software recommendations are much appreciated.
