I have being turning in TV infomercials to a station as a Quicktime file, since when I asked them what format they needed they said “Just a Quicktime is fine”. The specs I have given them are in the picture I’m attaching, with uncompressed audio.

These specs give me a good quality video and the size is only 7GB, which allows me to put it in a dual layer 8.5 GB Data DVD. The program looks great on TV.
Now the problem I’m facing is that another station also requires a Quicktime, but they want it as Apple ProRes422 (HQ).

I noticed that Vegas does not convert with that type of format. Any suggestions on how I can get it to this format or similar options?

    Hey Ever–

Those are similar specs for stations where I live, and they’ve all been fine taking MOV/H264 files, which you can make from QuicktimePRO or Sorenson Squeeze.

You might even call them and ask for other filetype options; just because they spec something doesn’t mean other stuff won’t work just as well for them. I’m finding that sometimes those specs are just something that somebody at the station “declared” one day.

First, do not EVER install a codec pack on your editing PC. They are usually made for the gamers and can replace the excellent codecs installed by Vegas with really inferior ones.

You can’t encode to ProRes on PC. Your best bet is to use Avid DNxHD. It’s free and just as good as ProRes. Best yet, both PC and Apple editing programs like it.

Hey Steve, here’s an easy (and unbelievable) one for you: I don’t think I’ve ever installed an outside codec before. After I download it, do I put it in a particular place, or is it an executable or something that already knows where to go?

Kelly, John Rofrano did a great tutorial on using this codec.

Be advised that if you follow the link that Steve gave, it will bring you to version 2.3.7 which has been replaced by 2.3.8

You’re welcome Steve. I had read on another forum that the latest version added a lot of new render options that may help anyone using this codec.

Thank you Stephen for the suggestion. I will try the Avid codec.
