It was a prores HQ sequence with this 10-bit RGB clip in with other prores material.

No YUV. But the clip codec was 10 bit RGB.

This should help with deciding how much space you need.

If you only want to upres the digibeta, I would suggest this workflow:
1) Make a new project with just your final sequence
2) duplicate final sequence
3) Make a new bin and name it Media
4) Highlight all video in the sequence and drag to the Media bin
5) In the Media bin, select all digibeta and color it using labels, take off all other colors.
6) Using the toggle clip keyframes button in the bottom left of your timeline window, you should be able to see what is digibeta footage.
7) Move all the digibeta to it’s own track.
8) Media manage your sequence using using copy to move all the media to a new folder but delete unused media.
9) In your newly created sequence, everything should be online. Select all the digibeta clips in the timeline and take the media offline.
10) batch capture the digibeta footageNow you’re DV footage and HDV footage have all been moved over to the new online project and you can capture the digibeta in whatever codec you want.

I agree with everyone above about using the Disk Utility raid service. I have done it on many computers and have had no issues. You continue to get the RAID errors and this would be a good way to see if the software raid is the problem.
Reading your post, I kept thinking to myself it sounds like an issue with your external drives. Have you checked that your preference is to keep drives from going to sleep? This could cause major issues with hangups. If a drive is not being used even though it’s open in the project, it may go to sleep while you are using media from a different drive and then you try to access media from the sleeping drive.
What brand of drives are you using as externals? I have had bad experiences with lesser brands not ideally made for video.
Are all these drives Mac OS X (no journaling) formatted?
Another thing that may help is to restrict these drives from the spotlight. This is done in system preferences/spotlight/privacy.
I would also suggest doing a clean install of the OS, update everything, run a permission repair, then install FCS, install updates, permission repair.
Have you tried loading in Safe Mode? There may be a driver that you have installed thats hanging your system.
Just some initial quick thoughts. Hope something helps. I know how frustrating a buggy computer can be.

Sorry, yes this has already been edited. This was supposed to be a simple cleanup, graphics cleanup, send to color project. It turned into a lot more.

This is what we are doing, except half of the dv is 23.98 and half is 29.97. Shouldn’t I separate them so that 3/2 is properly added for the 23.98 through the terranex?
If I send straight to color it will have three layers, will the edl make the cuts in each? Wouldn’t I have to render out of color back to FCP, even if ungraded?

Try a new user. Under system prefs, create a new user and open FCP. Guarantee it will fix the problem.
I don’t know what the problem is exactly, but something gets corrupted in the user prefs and creating a new user and using that will fix it.

I have had this problem in the past and found that creating a new user on the system and opening FCP will solve the problem. It’s a pain to bring all your desktop files from one user to another, but much faster then reinstalling everything.

Is it possible it was recorded using the 5D? Cannon released a plug in for FCP to use log and transfer to transcode to prores from H.264 using their camera.
