[Richard Sanchez] “I would AMA link, transcode to offline and then relink back. I’m sending you copy of my XDCAM workflow guide via Facebook (I figured better than post your e-mail address on a public forum). Hope it helps.”

I would love to see your xdcam workflow that would be awesome

If you are working in a AMA workflow, then the same as source won’t work as Avid doesn’t know what the source is.

We have been playing with this workflow for a while, but still trying too work out all the quinks

What we have done is XDcam media AMA linked in.

Finished the Edit and transcoded the sequence to DnXHD.

Exported a AAF of that sequence.

Opened in resolve and color graded.

Then in Resolve Render the media into the Avid Media MXF Folder.

    Export out a New AAF.

Then in the Avid media folder you have to delete (or move) the.MDB files, so when avid opens it can rebuild the database with the new color graded media there.

In Avid import the AAF and volia there your new sequence all color graded.

WE have found a couple of quirks depending on the length of the sequence if it really long 1 hr+ its best to export smaller chunks to bring into resolve as sometimes the avid wigs out and doesn’t bring in all of the graded render files.

also if you are working in multi frame rate sequence make sure that all of the media in the “wrong” frame rate is rended into the “right” frame rate as resolve can’t work in a mulit frame rates.

[Eric Santiago] “Weird I thought you cant run 6 on Snow Leopard?”

Yea its not supported by avid but it does run.

Here is what I did to work around the issue. I ended up creating a recovery bin and re ama linked all of the source clips into that bin. Then I highlighted all of the new AMA clips in the bin, went to the sequence (which is in it’s own bin) right clicked selected relink. In that dialog box instead of searching all availible media drives I selected the relink to highlighted items in selected bins, made sure the relink to AMA clips was check then hit relink. It created a new sequence with all my clips relinked and online.

  • I have been looking into this for the last 2 years at NAB. Depending on your requirments there are a couple of decient options i have seen.

1st that comes to mind is the Camwave by IDX its got a range of 100 feet and its around $5000

    https://www.idxtek.com/products/cw-5hd

Hitachi now makes a camera adaptor for one of their cameras called the SKHD 1000

I have also seen a couple of other venders, but there prices are quite steap sitting in the 30,000 to 50,000 range for equipment that transmits video signal and also sends back shading and iris from a RCP.

So sorry I should have said I was running MC 6. I was getting a weird error at first when i was trying to create a Embedded AAF, but now that i have installed the update I can export a AAF by consolidated the media and then selecting embedded into AAF. still not sure if this is the best way but it works for me.

    Thanks for the input guys

    I get the same error.

Im working on a Mac with avid. I did have mixed frame rates but I transcoded my sequence the exported the aaf. Supposedly the transcoded should have created all my media with the same frame rate 23.98, bu when I import the aaf I get the error. Funny thing all the clips show up in the master session but in the timeline session a bunch o the clips have the red x in them.
