Try adding the Rain to a masked Adjustment Layer.

How are you playing it, with the Space Bar? Not the best way.
Hit zero on the numeric pad for a Ram Preview of both audio and video, or hit the “.” key on the numeric pad for audio only.

The easiest is to go to the first frame of your .mov, then click Composition>Save Frame As>File. This will make a still of that frame. Import that, put it at the beginning of the timeline. Now slide your .mov down to the 15 sec point, and make sure it above the still.

Go to the 15 sec mark in that mov and hit “Alt [“, this will trim the inpoint to the 15 sec mark of the movie. Then slide it Around until it starts in the composition where you want it to.
You can also double click the mov layer and set the inpoint in that layer window, but I just use, Alt [, to trim. By the way, Alt ], trim putting the outpoint in that spot.
If you meant to not start the mov until 15 sec into your composition then go to the 15 sec spot in the timeline and then import drag in your mov from the project window.

Try CC Mr Mercury on a solid the color you want the liquid to be. It’s tricky but powerful.

So each layer that’s the size of one of the squares, gets the expression on Position. Just adjust the grid as needed, numbers of rows and columns, and loose the circular masks that are on the layers making them circles. The expression creates the grid and the random movement. Also adjust Holdtime.
