Thanks Mark!! That was just the nudge I needed to have something to search for in the help files.
All good now!

How might one go about submitting feedback to Apple? This is definitely an oversight in the programing that needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the tip on Pro Versioner. I had no idea it existed, and I am installing it now!

Thought I would follow up on this as I figured out the issue. Turns out the Tiffen UV Protector lens filter I had screwed on was causing this. As soon as I popped it off the circles were gone. Interesting though how the camera seemed to filter the issue out on the recorded content.

The length of a ram preview is entirely dependent on the amount of ram available in you system. Once it fills up that ram it no longer has anyplace to render the frames to. My guess is it has filled up your ram and that’s why it’s not ram previewing the entire project. I would try setting a work area in and out on the timeline and then previewing in section defined by that work area.

Looks to be a fairly complex template with lots of blur and lighting effects going on. Chances are it’s just taxing your system quite a bit which is causing the slow down. You can try setting the render to “draft” while working on it, and even cutting the resolution to 1/2. This might cut down the stuttering a bit while working on the project. However when rendering at full res your still going to be stuck with the long render times, it’s the nature of the beast when working in complex projects.

I guess it just means a different mode of thinking when working in Motion, and hoping they fix that in a future release.
Thanks again for the replies!

First off thanks for the replies! I have tried setting it to normal and it is rendering however it hits a point an becomes VERY slow. I am now assuming that this is probably happening with the “Best” setting too, it just appears to lock up because it’s taking forever to render a frame.
I gotta say this really bums me out that Motion is having trouble with Illustrator files. Coming from years of working in After Effects I find I like the interface, as well as behaviors, in Motion much better. I would really like to make it my default motion graphics package. But this issue may kill that hope. I do so much with Illustrator files of clients logo and need vector graphics capabilities.
Thanks again for your responses!

Thanks folks, I appreciate you taking the time to answer this. I wound up just taking the graphic into Photoshop and cutting an alpha there. It’s rather disconcerting though to think this problem exists. Being a long time AE guy I like Motions behaviors approach, not to mention the work flow with FCP, but I find it a bit buggy.
Thanks again,
Mike
