I know it’s not really the solution you are looking for, but the tracking in Combustion is out of this world. I do a lot of tracking of application screens into cell phones and it has made my file so much easier.

February 8, 2006 at 7:01 am in reply to: Removing Edits

Hmmmm the only way I can think of is what Michael suggested with the “Remove match frame edit’s” option. At the edit points are there two small lines connecting the two segments? If so are they white or red? If they are red then it means that the match frame edits can’t be removed. This is usually due to an effect, or something, applied to one of the segments. The only other suggestion I would have is to do lift out one of the segments and then do an Extend Edit on the remaining one to fill the hole.

If you have After Effects available to you I would suggest going that route. Export as a Quicktime or QT ref and then draw the matte with the pen tool with RotoBezier’s active. Create your matte keyframes at the first and last frames first. Then go to the middle and create a key, then go to the middle of those two sections and create another key. Continue working from the middle until you have the desired results. The key (no pun intended) is to do it with as few keframes as possible. Combustion would be another route if you have that, I actually prefer it to AE for rotoscoping. As for doing it in Photoshop I

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me how amazed I would be at the next version of this or that because they had insider information, my day would consist of watching reruns of The Flintstones while eating Captn Crunch on the couch.

I’ll be amazed when I actually se it! Until then it’s just hearsay that I have already heard, over and over and over again!

  • Hey Joe,

I would think that Adrenaline would be the box for you. It can do all of what you are asking and in a timely manner. As for not having to go to AE for things…. I am finding that with the addition of Boris Continuum Compleat (which is bundled with it) I am going to AE a lot less than I used to. However if the compositing gets a bit to crazy I still go there or to Combustion. Mostly because I am just more comfortable in those apps for heavy compositing.

    Good luck Mate,

Why not just export from the Avid as a .wav file?? Or am I missing something?

    Cheers,

January 17, 2006 at 4:47 am in reply to: Change Text Width / Height Independently?

What Kevin is suggesting is not in either of the text tools. He is suggesting that you create the title as normal, save it and throw it on the timeline. From there go into effects mode and then promote the title to 3D (bottom right button in the effects editor) From there you can scale the title independently on the X or Y axix. Keep in mind this will work on the entire frame, not just the text objects. Because of this I doubt this is what your looking for, but give it a shot. As for independent scaling within title tool, I don’t know of anyway to do it. As for Marquee, I have no idea, it renders to slow for me to have spent much time with it.

    Good luck Mate,

Excellent feedback David, but if they brought their settings with them I would immediately take away their disk or jump drive away before they had a chance to install them on my system!!! I have heard and seen to many horror stories of corrupt user settings.

On a side note how are things in your world? I am getting ready to move the studio out to east county where I can have a room for each editbay!! Give me a shout we should hook up for lunch or something.

    Hey Jon,

I have now tried it on a third system with the same results. All the systems have Nvidia cards in them and all but one have the most up to date drivers I can get. The one that doesn
