Hey Bryan,
Thanks for the thought but I have already run down that path. I unintalled Nero as well as disabling services that Adobe suggests and I still get the same outcome. Sometimes it burns okay but more often then not it crashes at the 7.5meg spot. Other times it burns through the data write and then hangs when writing the lead out. For now the saving grace has been taking the project files to my laptop and burning on the Pioneer DVD burner on it.
I am really at my wits end as I need to have dependable burning as many of my clients work down to the last minute. I think I may just pick up a Pioneer for the desktop as well and hope that solves the issue, it’s rather frustrating.
Thanks again!
Mike

What type of DVD media did you use? I have found that DVD-R is the most compatable to the most viewers.

The only other thing I would add to all of this great info is to align yourself with other in the industry around you who can provide services you can’t. In my situation, and I do a lot of work for fortune 500 companies, I concentrate on producing and post. My skill set lies in editing and client interface, so I bring in others to do the acquisition, scripting, VO etc… Of course I am always there to direct the efforts, but it also frees me up to baby sit the client.
Corporate clients can be a very strange animal that feeds on your time, the more you can give them the better. If there are some good camera and lighting guys in your area I would strongly suggest that you hook up with them. The mark up I place on others services is the easiest money I make on a production.
An added extra benefit is that you don’t have to worry about the new wizbang camera that’s out. That becomes your camera guys problem. If you need that camera for a shot you tell him/her and they make it happen. Lastly, remember the client won’t remember that you shot the piece on an SDX-900 in cool 24p mode for film look, but they will remember if you were never available to answer their questions because you were to busy setting up that SDX-900.
Good luck, it’s a great way to make a living!!

May 13, 2005 at 4:48 am in reply to: Nesting Problem and Title Tool in Avid Xpress ProHi Stefani,
You have found what many of us know already, title tool is just not that robust. You can however feather the shadow. With the text highlighted go to, if memory serves me as I am not in front of my system, in the ALIGNMENT menu and choose SOFTEN SHADOW, keep the default setting of 4 and whalla, a feathered shadow.
I really only use the title tool for very basic stuff. For the most part I will go to AE or Combustion to do the fancy stuff. Since it sounds like you have AE I would recommend that you add it to your workflow for titles. It is a bit more work to go back and forth between apps, but it’s the best tool for the job.
As for nesting, or precomping, as you would do in AE Avid does not have this capability. You can copy and paste a sequence into another but, as you discovered, they are not linked in any way. This would be a nice feature and I can only hope that the brains in a jar over in Tewks are hard at work on it.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the input but as I have yet to work in 24p would you mind expondig a little on the diference between normal 24p puldown and 240 normal? I am assumng that the 240 stuff is akin to the 24pA that the DVX100A shoots?
A link with the info would work just as well if you don’t have the time to type.
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the input. The project is in 30i so no worries there. I would agree that it’s not much more for PRO but this guy is very budget conscious.
Thanks again,
