    More problems!!! Any clue???

I have a lot of problems in using the title tool in XPress Pro. It seems that it is very limited, not like Photoshop or After Effects. I can’t put feather on the drop shadow, I can’t put any 3D effect on the text, etc.

Another problem is on nesting. I have six separate sequences. At the end, I want to put all of them into one master sequence. What happen is that Avid drops the original cuts themselves into the master sequence. When I make changes on the original sequence, the cuts in the master sequence is not affected. Can Avid treat nesting llike the way After Effects does precomp?

    Hi Stefani,

You have found what many of us know already, title tool is just not that robust. You can however feather the shadow. With the text highlighted go to, if memory serves me as I am not in front of my system, in the ALIGNMENT menu and choose SOFTEN SHADOW, keep the default setting of 4 and whalla, a feathered shadow.

I really only use the title tool for very basic stuff. For the most part I will go to AE or Combustion to do the fancy stuff. Since it sounds like you have AE I would recommend that you add it to your workflow for titles. It is a bit more work to go back and forth between apps, but it’s the best tool for the job.

As for nesting, or precomping, as you would do in AE Avid does not have this capability. You can copy and paste a sequence into another but, as you discovered, they are not linked in any way. This would be a nice feature and I can only hope that the brains in a jar over in Tewks are hard at work on it.

What’s stopping you from simply overwriting the final sequence with the portion of the modified original sequence? It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not sure I’d want to have my original sequence modified from within another one – that’s why you make duplicates and whatnot.

    Stefani,

    [ I can’t put any 3D effect on the text, etc. ]

Title Tool is limited to basic styles. Use Photoshop or Boris Graffiti (plugin) for more options.

[Another problem is on nesting. … Can Avid treat nesting llike the way After Effects does precomp?]

Avid does not nest in this manner.

    Sincerely,
    Oliver

If you wish 3d text, you can upgrade to XproHD, it comes with Marquee title tool that adds 3d functionality.

    Best,

    Dan
