  • Change Text Width / Height Independently?

Posted by Lj Corwin on January 15, 2006 at 2:33 am

    Hi,

I am a little frustrated with Avid’s Title Tool after having used Inscriber for many years. It appears that with Avid’s Title Tool and with Marquee you can only pick a font size that keeps the height and width of the font constant, like with a word processor. With Inscriber I had the freedom to change the height of a font while keeping the width the same. Or vice-versa.

I figured that I would simply buy Titlemotion as a plug-in for the Adrenaline and forget about the Title Tool and Marquee completely. But after running the Titlemtion demo I see that the title gets rendered to the clip and doesn’t give one much latitude for moving the title around. I know I can work with Inscriber as a stand-alone and export the title as a Targa and the import it into the Adrenaline but that seems pretty time-consuming.

Am I missing something here? Is there a way with the Title Tool and/or Marquee to change the font height and width independently?

    Thanks in advance.

yes, use the effect editor. in the effect editor you can use scaling the change the height and width. and if you look in the lower right corner you should see the 3-D box click on that and you get all of the 3-D effects.

The effects editor within the titler? If so, he Title Tool or Marquee?

    Thanks,

What Kevin is suggesting is not in either of the text tools. He is suggesting that you create the title as normal, save it and throw it on the timeline. From there go into effects mode and then promote the title to 3D (bottom right button in the effects editor) From there you can scale the title independently on the X or Y axix. Keep in mind this will work on the entire frame, not just the text objects. Because of this I doubt this is what your looking for, but give it a shot. As for independent scaling within title tool, I don’t know of anyway to do it. As for Marquee, I have no idea, it renders to slow for me to have spent much time with it.

    Good luck Mate,

    Mike

Thanks for the response. I guess I’ll have to settle for using Titlemotion as an outside app. What a drag.

Anyone have any thoughts/info as to Avid maybe implementing TitleDeko as a titler since the acquisition of Pinnacle?

Wow. I think I finally get to answer a question on the cow!! Anyway yes you can do this in Marquee. If you look at Expert animation under the toolsets heading at the top of the Marquee screen, you’ll find everything you need. A window should open titled timeline and under the transform tab you will be able to scale x and y separately. That is the jist of it even if my expalination isnt the greatest. Hope this starts you in the right direction

Your explanation was totally cool. I played with transform today and yeah, I think I can make it work for me. A little cumbersome but not unworkable.

    Thanks so much for replying!

    Later,
