Personally unless you know there is no life on the footage I would shoot everything in HD. The output to SD. Most HD capture card with do the down convert as well as the letterboxing or cropping to give you full screen. But if you are wanting full screen 4:3 you have to frame with that in mind.

But your original post is so confusing, you are saying you shot 720p in squeeze, there is no such thing.

If you want it simple, and you don’t want letterboxing you shot full frame not squeeze, 4:3 squeezed is the same as 4:3 anamorphic which is normally what you want for DVD production.

But you are receiving a SD feed not HD.

But if you get the 7D and you don’t hit record, push that white box all the way up and record to your device. Then in post zoom in just a bit to crop out the box. If you hit record in 12 minutes you will get the stop recording message in your video.

You will need a HDMI splitter and an external monitor.

So I think you have a chance to pull off what you need with a little extra work in post. You can do the cropping in Compressor the same time you convert to ProRes if you like.

BTW, love the Russian Ark, Wish they would overdub it in english so you could just watch the video without having to read the subtitles.

There are samples on the web, search Rolling shutter effect. There is also aliasing and moire issue with all these sensors. They are the nature of the beast.

There is no real time AF, you can use it to focus before you hit record but once you do you are on your own. The USM focusing on the Canon is great for this since it is AF and manual at the same time. The video record does not focus the camera (at least not on the T2i).

Stuff like this you have to send it in. There is no internet fix for a bad card slot same thing for a stuck switch. You should be able to rent a camera when you have a paying gig, these things rent for about $100 in nashville, surely your day rate will more than cover that. Sucks to lose that money but you have to do what you have to do.

[Joseph Roraff] “I just need it to capture in FCP for a quick and easy export.”
If you are live capturing you need a system for each camera. FCP is not the best thing for live capture but if you are also recording to media you at lest have a backup. Go camera FW out to computer, FCP capture, Non-contollable device and Capture Now. You need a reference clap or flash to quickly sync the camera to one another.

I would never edit with a ref files. For me the only use for a ref file it is use for encoding.

  • The tape doesn’t know or care if the camera was on letterbox or squeeze. If you shot letterbox you simply uncheck the anamorphic box in the capture settings. Nothing else can be done with FW capture. Then when you edit you need a 4:3 sequence (DV 3:2)

That is one of the reasons, this is not an editing codec, you need to convert it to mach the other footage.

Then if you still have a problem, test the speed of the drives. AJA has a disk testing app, not sure if anyone can download it, check at their website.

What do you plan to use the server for? Is it for shared storage?

Before you do that I would repair permissions on your start up drive and then run Preference Manager

If you need to reinstall I would use FCS Remover (by the same people)
