There is ZERO reason to use VBR encoding, slows down the process and when you have such a short program CBR will be a ton faster and in most cases it will be better. Set the CBR bitrate to 7Mbps and let her rip, if should be close to real time, even if you are sending it from the FCP timeline, but Exporting it will speed up the encoding process but CBR will be even a bigger improvement.

I checked that forum out and there are a lot of other cameras being discussed. I think the cow is getting a bit too fragmented in areas. (No throwing stones please).

Thanks, I did a quick test and it was fine, I will get that Plasti-Dip, but that will mean a lot of stuff around my house will be coated in plastic :-).

That was the filter I was thinking of. If it is really blown out it is impossible to make it look good, but you can make it look less bad.

P2 should come into FCP just fine, do to the Panasonic website and get the AVC-Intra codec and install it (it is Intel only though). See if that gets you up and running.

Panasonic is normally very clear on the model versions. “A” models have an A, on the box it will say HVX200A, if you have the box. If the camera was listed as an A model I would be contacting the seller right away.

Have you formatted the card in the camera, not just erased the clips, your wording is a bit vague.
