Using programs like Magic Bullet or Shake do a great job. The new version of Compressor (3) has shakes optical flow and “should” do a great job with this.

That’s it, weird files, ripped off a DVD that was 704×480 and it made those settings for the TL. Once I changed the TL settings to a standard 720×486 uncompressed RT options shows up and of course now it will need final rendering but preview is fine.

For the best DVD encode go from your timeline to compressor. Make a new preset with

MPEG-2
Video Format Tab
NTSC
23.97
16:9

Quality Tab
One pass CBR
6.5 Mbps

Everything else can be left alone.

I will let someone else answet the format for color correction. Easier though is a self contained reference movie.

H264 is not an editing codec nor is it an Apple codec. It is open source that is wrapped in QT. Just not made to work in a timeline.

Before you reinstall do a hardware test. Find the orginal disc that come with your system and on the face it will tell you how to start up in the test mode.

As for your 2-4 drives as long as they are not striped together with drive 1 you are fine. I would remove them while testing and reinstalling anyway. If you are going to test your system strip it and start growing it slowly.

You may have a bad stick of RAM or hard drive with the above problems.

First thing to try is to open the preference and check or uncheck the “remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames” basically the opposite of what you have now.

Also List the setting on the cameras record menu and the firestore.

You need to give more information if you want help.

How long is segment, what size do you need it to be. Generally H.264 gives you the best compression but the viewer would have to have QT 7 or the newer Media player loaded on their machine.

I have bought my RAM from Macsales for years (their FW drives also) they are a great company and very responsive if there is a problem.

From what I understand –
MacPro certified – same RAM as what Apple puts in
Apple qualified – meets the specs set out by Apple.

I went ahead and got the certified this time for my system just to be safe but I have bought the qualifed before and had no issues.

Don’t even think about getting any other card than the X1900, the multiple card configurations are for a few specific applications and for the video world you are giving up speed (if fact Color will not work with multiple video cards) so unless you really need 8 monitors going there is no reason for 4 cards, but boy would that not be cool!

I would try re-importing the footage and make sure you have the Remove advance pulldown and duplicate frames checked in the preferences. This should give you 23.98 fooage in your bin.

Also what version of FCP are you using. FCP6 is having issues with importing 24P.
