time effects that can be played back, you can select the Unlimited RT mode. In this
mode, Final Cut Pro attempts to play as many frames as possible, even when the effects
in your sequence exceed the processing power of your computer. Real-time effects that
can play back without dropping frames still appear with green, dark green, or yellow
render bars as appropriate. However, when the number of effects exceed your
computer’s processing power, an orange render bar appears, indicating that real-time
playback will occur, but that frames might be dropped during playback in this part of
your sequence.”One way to get great TC burns is to turn it on with the AJA control panel. The down side it the TC is from the timeline but if you match the TC of the timeline to the clip you get what you need. I think you maybe able to get the clips TC if you play out of the AJA TV.

The main thing is a higher res CCU in the A and better in low light, I would pay the extra $ without a second thought!

Either one would work, on ingest they both come in as 23.98P. The difference is 24pN doesn’t record the redundant frames so you get move time on the card. When you shot 24P the camera records 60 frames per sec (59.94) but 26 are duplicate frames that are removed when you bring them into FCP, which is what is going on which the tape shot with the varicam.

Yes it is a match file frames to capture off the tape but there is also a marked difference when I compare a QT exported with QT vs QT conversion, even if I use the same codec. The conversion is a lot darker.

Has the DVD player’s firmware up-to-date? There was a final update that fixed this.

Are you “reformating” the drives with Disk Utility and making it a Mac OS Extended volume?

Not being harsh but there is not much useful info here to help give you advice. It is always a good idea to list –
What program are you using to encode the m2v?
What file of movie file do you have (what codec is it)?
What are you encoding settings?
Are you applying any filters as you encode?
What is the length of your movie?
What are you viewing your DVD on, TV, Computer?DVDs blacks should be at 0 IRE as with all digital movies.

Yes, you can mix and match aspect ratios, one button goes to the 16:9 movie the other goes to the 4:3.

The thing that is not understood is why are you using HDV if most of your footage is DVCProHD.
The best quality from compressor is achieved by using Export to Compressor from the FCP sequence, the downside is you time up FCP while it is encoding and it does take longer to encode. But if you are going to make a self contained QT movie you want to keep it the same as your timeline. And for the timeline it is normally best to keep it in the format of the majority of you footage.
Best m2v movies using compressor is via FCP Export to compressor and if you can you use a bitrate close to or above 6 Mbps use CBR. You can try a 3 minute section and evaluate the encode.
