Final Cut problem!
I have Final Cut 4.5 HD…I’ve been editing with a Maxtor external drive (200gb) for the last year. I recently purchased a Western Digital external (500gb) since I need more space. I formatted the new External deleted the Maxtor as scratch disk, add the WD external as the new scratch disk.
Then, when I open FCP or try to capture footage at window pops-up:“Unable to set scratch disk. The selected directory is on
write-protected or non-writable media.”I tried re-formatting the WD external…deleted it as scratch disk and re-connected the orginal external drive (Maxtor) as scratch disk and still nothing. Same window pops-up. I am hopeing someone can help with this problem.

Are you “reformating” the drives with Disk Utility and making it a Mac OS Extended volume?

Assuming that, as Michael says, you have formated your HDs as “MacOX Extended”:
– Open the Info Window (Comm+I) of your HD.
– Down in “Sharing& Permissions” click ” Ignore ownership on this volume”.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
