Are you shooting 720P or 480i? 24pA is an interlaced scheme and is not available (or needed) on 720p.

IF 720P, 24p records 60 (59.94) frames per second by duplicating each frame 2 or 3 times and then they are removed when you ingest the footage. Where as 24pN only records the 24 frames and that is why you get the longer record times.

Once they are ingested there is no difference in your timeline other than the clips TC (the 24p clips will have missing numbers where the duplicate frames are pulled out.

if you take the first half that is spilt and enlarge it to the amount applied to the first frame of the smoothed clip it may give you a smooth transition.

They do like the the film look of 24p and there is a slight possibility it will go out to film (although it is a TV show and I don’t see why/how this would ever be turned into a film) but they do want to make sure they can master at 59.94.

I don’t have any footage to test out but I did make a 1080p/23.98 timeline and just dropped in 1080i/59.94 footage and then rendered it to test.

If you want 29.97p or 59.94i from your 23.98p timeline you just set the Video Playback to Kona AJA 1080p29.97 or 1080i29.97 and then the pulldown is added on the fly?

It should be pointed out that every SD DVD can be duplicated at will, there is virtually 0 protection since there are tons of free software out there that can used to rip every retail DVD.

While it is true that most retail DVDs are done with Scenarist you can do a professional job with other programs. In the end it is more about using the right tool for the budget you have to work with.

Dude, you are getting blinded by a marketing name “Extreme” there is more to a system than the process (no matter what it is called) so are you looking for the fastest system or the cheapest price?

The newer systems will be faster, by how much, no idea but they have more L2 cache, faster Front side bus and faster memory, all this adds up to “faster” the only down side is the new 2.8 cost $200 at Apple or $100 from Amazon. So which is more important to you a little bit of money or a little bit of speed. There is no right or wrong thing here. If the iMac family of computers meets your needs either one will work so I’m not telling you which one to buy so much as pointing out the differences.

Of course with the new system you can spend even more to get a faster video card or processor.

I think the HD is a bit smaller on the new systems. This was the top of the line one upgrade back, Now it is 2nd inline. So this is just not the deal you are think it is anyway. It was $2100 when it was top of the line, they dropped the price to $1800 when the 3.0 processors came out and put a 320GB HD in the new systems instead of the 500GB. THe Bus speed is better on the new systems.

Apple doesn’t make “gaming” computers, they are what they are, but honestly gaming computers are normally the best computers on the PC market.

You are worrying over nothing. You put up a link for the Intel specs you can see there is not much difference in the extreme and the duo, at least that I can see.

Not sure why you are putting yourself through this, if the system meets your need just buy it. Don’t believe iMac were that fast or had that video card in 2006.

Do you have the TC Burn-In: set to “Timecode”?

and in the Frame buffer graphic it should say Timecode ON

that is a pretty heavy filter not sure if it will be prefect on a MacPro. the one thing you always want to happen with a TC burn is to have every frame recorded, as if I can live with the loss of video quality I set the frame rate to FULL which in turns drops quality in Unlimited RT even more. But most of the time quality is not that important for TC Dubs

Plus when the client finally see the real footage they are blown away. 🙂
