Try unchecking the Remove Pull down or duplicate frame in Prefs.

Never a good idea to reencode mpeg2 files but if that is all that you have then yes you have to convert them to an “editing” codec, I recommend going to 10-bit (or 8) compressed then take that into Compressor and encode back to mpeg2.

You can check out ScopeBox.xom you can actually record multiple feeds (actual results may vary) if you add a second FIrewire Express34 card. the have a full working demo so you can try it out before you buy.

I would think this would be handy but only for a handful of people, of the say 1 million FCP users I would think less then 1 percent would like this feature so it might be a hard sell. Log and capture/transfer pretty much does nothing to the footage right now, except for maybe changing the codec so I would not hold out much hope for this.
Like you said most systems now have a prism to fit this in the field.
I think want might be easier for a programmer would be to write some kind of Flip that can batch process the clips after capture and that way it would still have the TC and you have to render the clips in FCP.

This may also just be the codec you are using. Why are you shooting DV with a HVX200, do you have to shoot on tape? Try using DV50 codec if you want to stay in the SD format. If you are use to 2/3″ chip what format?

For main video I normally put 2 seconds of silence. Seems like seem players take a bit to ramp up the audio. This is not a major thing and is a preference habit for me. If I’m trying to do a menu transition I don’t do it, but I also don’t do many menu transitions.

There is no way to make audio level adjustments in DVDSP.
You have to be doing something different with your audio settings between the submenu and other tracks, I have not seen any level variations when making ac3 audio files as long as the settings are the same.

One IMPORTANT habit to always do.
ALWAYS write protect the P2 card before you mount it to the Mac.
BTW – I use the Duel-Adapter and it works fine. Fastest transfer and very reasonably priced.

That is such an open ended questions, all cameras can do a professional job but some are better is one area than another.
I don’t think HDV is going anywhere, it has its issues but you can do good work with that format and it is still a tape based format, which still has its pluses.
But without knowing your budget, your focus all you will get is other peoples preferences.

Make self-contained QT movies of the final edit in the same codec as your timeline. If you want a more versital codec, especially with the HDV export the timeline as ProRes. These files can then be taken into Compressor to make files to fit any need, such as DVD or web videos.
