I have to admit the lack of desktop support for p2 amazes me. The Duel Adapter at least gets the MBP back into the transfer game at a reasonable price. I would spend a couple of hundred bucks for good professional looking P2 adapter for my MacPro.
Rentals of a P2 Store would add up pretty quickly and we need to remember most of the US has zero video equipment available for rental. Example Chattanooga sits 2 hours from Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville but you couldn’t rent a professional DV camera in that city.

Magic Bullet Frames is one that comes to mind. Shake can also do a good job of retiming.

I have the HVX200 and have used/rented the other cameras.
First, using the 500 or 200 you have to get your head around the P2 workflow, which means buying more hard drives then you can ever image. It is not a horrible thing just takes more thought then, “how much tape do I need to bring”
I’m a firm believer in buying the most camera you can afford (notice that I only have the 200) and then I rent cameras when I feel the 200 is not up for the task. I also match cameras as much as possible for multicam shoots. In the end I think you either spend too much time in post making all the cameras match or you dumb down the better cameras to match the lower one.
But in one need more than a single camera for different jobs and they very in budget these two options are great choices. They all have their places and strengths, but less expensive cameras will alway be a compromise so the question goes back to you, can you (and your client) live with the compromises. Most of the time the clients budget answers the question for us.

Are they going to be used in a multicam setup? or different cameras for different budget projects? I think I like more info on what you want to do might get you better responses.

This is a standard tripod thread so any standard tripod or its release plate will screw into it.

Are you mixing the audio sources? I ask because that is what that tutorial is showing you how to do. You cannot movie to video from source B a 1/2 Frame in relationship to Audio/Video A.
The other thing is if the handy cam is walking around from front of stage to back of house the audio is not in sync with the video to begin with, the more distance you move the more it is out of sync. And frankly I think you are adding a lot of effort for nothing. Most people don’t notice sync problems for a couple of frames but most professional spot it in a frame and I’m sure there are those that can spot it is a 1/3 of a frame. Just my opinion, get it close and then slip the video to where it looks/sounds right.

Mpeg is not a movie format for editing (except for HDV but the is debatable) and it should be exported to another format, but NOT AVI, depending on what your camera is shooting and what your are editing on you should be using QT as DV or DVCPro50, DVCProHD or if you can handle it ProRes.

The camera can be in complete darkness, it has no bearing on the recorded subject which is your concern and that is what needs to be lit well. The other thing that I think should be noted is when people say that the camera doesn’t do well in low light they normally mean it is hard to get detail in low light without a lot of grain. This is indeed the case, but it you have a well lit subject in a very dark area (high contrast) and you don’t want detail in the shadows you can get some beautiful shots.
Every helpful to have an external monitor for shoots like this, this is always the case but in specialized setups it is even more important.

My guess the the 205 is the 170 that was announced at NAB. If it is not on Panasonic’s site it does exist (at least in my mind). The only thing that comes up in a google search are old forums or resellers that are a bit on the shady side.

how are you hooking up the xbox to the IoHD? I’m pretty sure HDMI from these devices is copy protected, I would try component video.
