Also there is no magic here. It is a great camera for the price range, same as the lens is a good price for the price range. But you are not getting the same quality as a HPX2000 and a $20K Fuji lens.
But as Noah said you need to use the camera and make the judgement call, a day rental on a HPX500 is probably $600.

Why not post your movie length. Is 13GB the size of the DV movie?
That 2-step process is crazy.

If you are getting the original disc w/ serial numbers and especially with system it is loaded on there are no issues. There is no registration like there was with *edit.
The G4 is not really worth much at all, it is long in the tooth. The software is probably an old version so you are basically getting $600 off the upgrade price to go to the current version.
This should would have to be a great deal, I would price the computer and software in the $600 range.

You need to invest in a video card from AJA, Blackmagic or Matrox to go to an external monitor.
The other option is a 2nd computer monitor set to Digital Cinema Desktop Preview in FCP as a fall back.

You can capture HD just fine via HD Component with the IoHD.
Why in the world are you even thinking about Uncompressed HD coming from HDV, total over kill and if you have 20 hours of footage you are looking at over 10 TB of drive space. And space is not your biggest problem but there is no way you are going to pull 5 streams of Uncompressed HD without a major RAID system, and I mean major.
And as stated before unless you are upgrading to a MacPro DVCProHD is the way you should go. It is more compressed than ProRes but smaller file size but still a step up from HDV.

Well in my opinion if you are doing an interview the small cameras are pretty much useless. For getting some cutaways, scenic shoots it maybe okay. BUt in the end you are the one to answer if it cuts together well enough.
Don’t know if there is a 24P camera out there but I would really look for that feature if you can find it.

FIrst question is how do you set up your HVX?
Depending on that answer you want a camera that closely match those settings.
Also what are you recording, are you using an external mic?
To me getting footage that will not match is not much better than shutting down and reshooting, unless you are just getting BTS B-Roll or something like that.
WIthout explaining is detail what type of shooting you do it is impossible to answer your questions.

It is standard practice to use 16:9 menus if you have 16:9 video. Oh, course you don’t have to if you don’t want to, the disc will play fine with just 4:3 menus.
When you make a 16:9 menu you have options on how it will be displayed on 4:3 TVs, Letterboxed (so the menu will look exactly like video with black bars top and bottom and it scales the buttons overlays to match or Pan and Scan with just center crops the menu. So if you design the menu so all the buttons and important graphics are in the middle this gives you the cleanest look.
The only issues of the mixed aspect ratios are on 16:9 TVs or Computer screens, Menu of different aspect ratios then the video kind of glitch when switching but there is nothing technically wrong with them. If you use 16:9 you eliminate most of this problem.

I don’t have Toast 9 but are you really setting the disc to have NO region code? Most of the time this should be set to ALL or at least the one you are living in.
I only used Verbatim DL disc, I tried a couple other brands and they didn’t work but that was years ago, I just stick with what I know works.
What happens when you Build and Format the disc all within DVDSP? Do these disc work?
