There is no such thing as an Uncompressed DVD. all DVDs use mpeg2 video. So if you want to be able to play the DVD in a set top player or DVD software nothing you can do differently.

Okay, yes SDI will give you the best option and then component. But once again, unless you are adding a lot of graphic work there is really zero gain for all this effort.

Reread your first post do you have DV (SD) or HDV footage? You list a HDV camera but state you have DV footage.
If you are looking at capturing HD Uncompressed that is a big investment in Hard Drives. You have to have at least a SATA RAID with 8-10 drives to pull that much bandwidth and you are not really getting better quality. It will hold up better when you add graphics but the footage is still what you shoot with. I think a more reasonable codec to use is ProRes (need FCP6), you can still edit with FW800 or single SATA drives and it gives you 10-Bit 4:2:2 color space for graphics. Close to Uncompressed with a 1/10th of the bandwidth requirements.

AJA makes several cards that have different inputs. If you have lost the manual for the one you have AJA have them on their website.
BTW is there a reason you want to go to this effort?

Find a the best common out from the camera to the in on the AJA and do a capture now. You can try to have the firewire active under device control but if that doesn’t work turn device to Non-controllable.

Firewire is just data but the deck does not send out Uncompressed video via Firewire and there is not way to do a real time conversion while capturing. You would need to get a video card or something like the Io from AJA, Decklink or Matrox.

You have to make sure you are monitoring the 4:3 crop as you shoot.
I would edit in codec it was shoot then do the down-convert through your video card if can handle that. Like an AJA or Blackmagic card. They can normally down-convert and do the crop at the same time.
Second plan would be to use COmpressor to do the down-convert and cropping to the final video.

Thanks Jeremy, you got me thinking about the file, in the end all I needed to do is open up the ref movie in QT Player. It took them a while to open up but once they did the linking come back and now the project opens as excepted.

As a side note – why are you bring in audio and video this way? If you are capturing to the same DV codec it would be much better to capture via FW from the deck.

Don’t have my HVX200 handy to double check this but what camera record settings are you using. I know 720 @ 24pN and 30pN with not work.
Don’t worry about the warning. Open Log and Capture (not Log and Transfer) and you should see the live feed and you should be able to do a capture now.
