What are all your settings? Sounds like a mismatch between the Firestore’s footage and the camera’s settings.

Well then replace AE with Quartz Composer. The point was not the program but to stay out of DV codec.
I would still not resize in FCP, I would work in a video pixel count and design in the padding I wanted.
You seem to be getting defensive, people are offering suggestions, no one is saying you have to do anything. If you like what you are getting that is all that matters.

No idea what you mean by “session”? If you mean the FCP program, not even DVDSP can do that.

It would be best if you just posted in one forum. This is a FCP question (and saw you posted there) not a IoHD.

But why that size, it doesn’t match the aspect ratio of video, you are working with 20:8 vs 16;9. So when you convert you are either distorting, cropping or letterboxing the image.
The other option would be to use 1280x720p.
NEVER judge quality from a DV source. Your export out of AE should be Animation or 10-Bit Uncompressed when working in SD. DV is 8-Bit, good bit of compression and 4:1:1 color space.
But in the end if you are happy with what you end up with that is all the matter.

We know that is why we are telling you to hire a P2 Wrangler (DIT), someone that know have to handle and organize all the media for you to bring back with you. This person should also have a high level of understanding on how to set up all the cameras. You NEED this person on set.Whether you use P2 or FIrestore you will have the same about of data to deal with.
Raid 1 drives that people are talking about are dual hard drive set up in FW800 enclosures, they copy the data twice. Since you are traveling I would just bring 2 separate drives do you have all the data in 2 places. Check one in your luggage and carry the other one on the plane with you. Or ship one of the drives. redundancy is your friend.

Not only that why not at least work is video resolutions. 1920×1080 would be more sense since it will scale to 16:9 SD better and cleaner. But if you are not going to use the graphic on something HD I would work in SD resolution 720×480 with the aspect ratio you want.
