Hello- I have been working on a documentary where I created three separate sequences using timeline settings of DVCPRO HD 1080p30 and then moved all three into a 1080i60 sequence by mistake. After doing considerable editing (and rendering), I discovered what I had done and then copied the 1080i60 sequence into a DVCPRO HD 1080p30 sequence. After the initial rendering, I have found that for no apparent reason clips that have smoothcam added will need rendering. This has happened many times.

Questions, Have I degraded the quality of the project by converting compressor settings several times?

What is causing the continual need to re-render the smoothcam clips?

    Thank you

I find I have to constantly re-render smoothcam clips as well. Don’t know of a fix.

    Happens to me too.

Fix = export self contained QT to bring back into project….

If you nested the clip, and rendered that nested sequence out, might that work also?

Hmm, not sure. Part of me says no, but who knows. I’d have to try and see.

As far as a self contained, that’s a good suggestion also, but most definitely a work around.

This is akin to when FCP used to lose ALL renders back in FCP 6.0 or 6.0.1. Annoying as all get out. The real fix will have to come from Apple, eventually.

Still becomes unrendered. I had many instances of nests with smoothed clips in it. Didn’t matter if it was in a nest or not.
Mind you I never tried applying smooth-cam to the nest rather than the clip… not sure if that would even work..

Definitely not a real ‘fix’ as in you render and it stays rendered. But after rendering the same clip over and over and over again doing a self-contained saves a little grief. (Sometimes I like to keep the original clip in V1 and place the new one on V2 just incase I want to make a change to the clip pre-flattened. Depends on what is on it before export.)

I figured as much as the clip would become unrendered in the master nest, then it would also change the nest in the timeline itself.

No doubt. It’s good practice anyway as eventually this what I would have to do to go to Color.
