  • Make sure you shoot 24pA (if you shoot 1080/24pA, so you will at least be working in the same frame rate.

Then the question is to what extent is this footage going to be used? Just some pickup and a few additional scenes? or a whole bunch? Personally I would probably shoot in squeeze mode so you get a 16:9 video, it is an electronic upscaling in the camera to get this so it is not the best but it is better than what FCP/compressor can do. You got a major compromise going on here so there is no right or wrong answer, mostly just less wrong answers but Noah had the right answer, spend the money but understand the position you are in.

I thought I posted a reply yesterday, oh well.

First be careful with terms, you are not MIXING in Compressor. That is something that is done in an audio program, in this case Pro Tools. you are just assigning the stems to the correct channel.

Each stem needs to be a mono stream that is panned to the center. Then you must be using a 5.1 preset to set each stem. Then your reciever must be set up correctly to play out 5.1 and not to a stereo downconvert.

You also never use FCP for something like this. Unless you go in and change the way that audio layers are outputed by default everything goes to ch 1 and 2

You do not mix in compressor than is just for encoding. 5.1 is encoded from 6 mono ch that are mixed in an audio app. You need to give details.

a bigger screen is always nicer.

but the express34 slot that the 17″ has can be huge for editors, a second FW port, eSata or for a true external display, to me it is a no brainer. Only draw back is the extra weight which doesn’t seem to be a concern, that and the extra $$

  • Also you CAN run Vegas on a Mac, in Bootcamp.

you will then have to remove the scale and distort aspect ratio of all the clips. This is under the motion clips. If you have not applied and scale your self you can select all > then right click and Basic Motion and Distort.

not to argue but internet sales are taxable, always have been, most people don’t pay them, most state didn’t go to any effort to collect them. The payment falls to the buyer not the shipper if it is shipped out of state. The state where the product lands has the right (according to tax code) to the sales tax on the purchase. They just have not tried very hard to get this tax before. Most major companies pay this tax because they cannot afford to be liable.

Don’t agree that this is right but the tax is just uncollected, they are now going after what they use to turn a blind eye towards. The reason is just like you said, they are short of money and internet sales have grown big time. I will hold off my comments on tax in general.

while that software looks cool for what it does, getting (3) 1080p camera feeds into a single system is the trick. That is a presentation switcher verses a production switcher, just make sure it does what you really need.
