    You can turn these off or on individually in timeline settings if you want under “show adapters.” To elaborate, you can see up to three indicators:

    1. C for color (A LUT has been applied to the source)
    2. S for spacial (source raster does not match project or has FrameFlex)
    3. T for temporal (frame rate does not match project rate)

    for all the nerds out there that want to see what the AAF holds – here is a dump file using AAF Dumper of a sequence that has nothing but a single title in it – no video, no audio, just the title. The title is comprised of two text boxes as seen in this screenshot:

    Here is all the info inside the AAF file (a binary file) and nowhere amongst the reams of metadata will you find the text from the title. If you could, one could create an AAF parser to a subtitle format. I believe it can be reverse engineered from some of the data in the file (see: AvidBagOfBits), but it is not easy and probably not something someone is going to take on as it has little ROI for a third party to do:

    Unfortunately there is no way to export the text content of the title tool as a format that can be parsed. That is why using SubCap is sometimes the better option for subtitle creation as it allows for the text to exported as text with timing (DS Caption file) or STL (EBU-N19). From there it can be parsed by different applications as a starting point for Close Captioning. And although SubCap exports EBU-N19, it does not support the full spec -so while it exports the text, it will not preserve position, font, color, etc.

    On a film I did, I applied the subcap effect to the top track, showed waveform for dialogue track, then marked IN-OUT for silent spans leaving blank subcap effects where there is voice activity. SubCap effect offers track based fonts, size, color, lines, etc. Advnatage is the ability to export as STL or DS Caption file. The latter isues to parse for the language deliverable.

    There are also several subtitling tools you can use to create subtitle files which are more optimized for subtitle files. I was just playing with Jubler a few hours ago to time based conversions of a subtitle file.

    Any reason to not use the SubCAP effect for the subtitles? One recent advantage of NewBlue is they can be conformed in Resolve.

    But I agree that overall, losing the title tool for 2K+ is not helpful.

    If nothing else, it will be put down as a marketing expense. There hasn’t been this amount of talk on shooting film (or not) in a while.

    The cost per minute aside, it is not a silent camera – so blimping and all the things we used to do to quiet the cameras. Even though it records audio, double system will still be a viable and used option. In the specs, I do not see fractional rates – just classic film whole numbers with crystal sync. Maybe this will change, but audio recorders everywhere will need to be aware of 48.048kHz recording for sync and no SRC when working in “NTSC” based countries. The lack of 29.97p/30p raises an eyebrow as well for some productions.
