Can Avid auto sync audio and video like Premiere and FCPX?
Posted by Erik Rosenbluh on January 12, 2016 at 10:46 pmI’ve Googled this question, and haven’t come across an answer I’m looking for. From what I’m finding, no, Avid can’t anazlye the audio of a video clip and a wav recorded separately and sync them together. If I want to use Pluraleyes, I have to export my clips as AAFs.

January 13, 2016 at 12:46 amCorrect – Media Composer does not offer syncing via audio analysis like Premiere or Resolve. The workflow is to export AAF and use PluralEyes – Here is a blog a did on the process: https://24p.com/wordpress/?p=218

February 3, 2016 at 4:02 am8.5 offers waveform syncing for multicamera grouping only, not so much for double system sound. I did write a blog offering a workaround on how to use it for syncing video + audio:

September 26, 2016 at 10:33 pmWell, Avid can’t do it. You have 2 options really..
1.Entangle for Avid
2.Plural EyesEntangle is great and is still free in beta, you can try it for free (edit8.com)
Plural eyes has strange but workable flow. -

September 27, 2016 at 12:43 amAvid CAN do it! Avid MC 8.6…and I think 8.5…has a feature to auto sync your footage via waveform. This is SINGLE TAKE only, meaning one clip of audio and one of video. If you want a timeline built with multiple audio and video clips all strung together, you’ll need Pluraleyes…but OLD pluraleyes. Version 3…Version 4 no longer works with Media Composer…doesn’t export AAF, only XML

September 27, 2016 at 7:26 amSingle take is ok. But having whole structure broken down to sequences from loads of footage is better. Did you try beta Entangle for Avid?

November 30, 2016 at 4:37 pmIt says on the website that Entangle only supports AMA… doesn’t seem like that would fit into a lot of folks’ workflows. Am I missing something?

November 30, 2016 at 4:46 pmAlso, using Avid’s group by waveform for clip based audio sync can work, but it is a painful process if you want to keep clip name, and have it be a .sync clip that tracks out of sync in the timeline. I describe the process in my blog:
https://24p.com/wordpress/?p=280
If you just want to use it as a group clip, you can, but may have other issues arise later such as relinking and such if needed.
