You want to scale it horizontally. Use the 3D effect.

You shoot either DVCPRO HD or HDCAM based on the advantages and disadvantages of those formats; look, resolution;, color space, etc.

DNxHD itself does not care – it is designed to retain the full quality of all HD formats throughout the post process ensuring a mastering quality image. From there you will make your farther compressed delivery formats.

If you set the Film/24p settings to ADVANCED and use FireWire, and it is not ADVANCED, the system will bitch at you. If you feel the footage is correct in the timeline by playing it, you can track it pulldown cadence by displaying the CADENCE column in the bin.

    Thanks for the compliments…

The Avid can track both a 24 frame and a 30 frame drop or non drop timecode as a master allowing you to correctly track any delivery format needed.

    You can also track total frames, 24fps, 25fps, 25fps with pulldown, 30 drop, 30 non drop, 30 with no pulldown, feet+ frames (35mm, 3 perf, 35mm 4 perf, 35mm 8 per, 16mm, 65mm 5, 8, 12, and 15 (IMAX)) all in the timeline.

The sources can be tracked the same way – the START will always be 30 because the sources are truly 30fps.

Does the timeline show any red, yellow or blue lines in the timecode track? That is an indication of performance.

Let’s please keep the facts straight… there is a lot of confusing information here…

1.) Only Xpress Pro HD and Media Composer Adrenaline HD can deal with FireWire directly.
Meridian has a FireWire card option, but does not work in 24fps.
2.) All versions of Media Composer since 1992 can deal with 24 frame capture (NORMAL) and manage the 24fps and 30fps timecode as well as 25, 25fps with pulldown, etc.
3.) Xpress Pro and Media Composer Adrenaline can capture both ADVANCED and NORMAL pulldown over FireWire or s-video, component, SDI, etc.
4.) Media Composer Adrenaline 2.1 and Xpress Pro 5.1 can capture NORMAL pulldown over FireWire in addition to ADVANCED
5.) Xpress Pro HD 5.0 can output either ADVANCED or NORMAL over FireWire, no need for Mojo.

Xpress Pro HD and Media Composer Adrenaline HD introduced the Canon XL2 deck template since the camera did not exist before that time. Try using a generic NTSC template.

Your mail did not specify whether the DV material was shot NORMAL or ADVANCED. If NORMAL, you can use any system dating back to 1992 to work at 24fps. You can capture over analog or SDI (not FireWire). You need to log or capture on timecodes ending in 0 and 5. All material shot on these cameras at 24fps is always non drop (unless you male a dub to a drop frame source. In which case the Avid have always had the ability to capture 24 from a drop frame source as easily as a non drop source.

If you Meridian system does not have a 23.976 project, you need to capture your audio over analog out. The pulldown switch will be set to .99 in software when capturing audio that is referenced to NTSC.

Hopefully this makes things clearer… 😉

  • It’s better off that way! Better to have user’s feature requests implemented…

    😉

  • Ah…forgot about the no slip keys in Xpress Pro.

  • No, my method would just show you the already edited clips in the timeline. Then park on that clip in the timeline with video track highlighted and use the < or > key to slip the shot. No need to go to trim mode, or re-edit from original sources.

  • I thought I answered this one on the Avid forums…

Yes, that would be a nice feature and is on the list of things to get to (among the thousands of other requests… 😉 )

I would color the source clip of the angle that is off by 5 frames. Then show source color in the timeline. Park on every clip that is that color and use the < or > on the keyboard to slip picture +/- 5 frames to return to sync.
