  • Problems with multicam in Xpress Pro 4.6.x (out-of-sync by 5 frames)

Hi all. I have just finished a nice (and easy) multicam edit with three streams of video. During the review after the 10 hour editing session I realized that one of the streams is off-sync from the others by 5 frames. Does anyone know how to re-sync that stream without losing the edits?

If it weren’t a multicam “group” it seems I could just move each clip within it’s block by 5 frames. I’m not sure how to do in with a multicam grouping.

NOTE TO AVID: Having the ability to readjust sync points in a group of streams would be a nice feature.

    Devin.

I thought I answered this one on the Avid forums…

Yes, that would be a nice feature and is on the list of things to get to (among the thousands of other requests… 😉 )

I would color the source clip of the angle that is off by 5 frames. Then show source color in the timeline. Park on every clip that is that color and use the < or > on the keyboard to slip picture +/- 5 frames to return to sync.

    Michael,

I’m pretty sure I fed this one to the Avid forums, but for some reason was never able to find my post again. It means a lot that you answered in both places anyway.

    Thanks.

If I understand you correctly, when I’m looking at the sequence timeline, I am looking at the equivilant of marking clips and dropping them onto the timeline. Thus, I can slip them the same way I would normally slip a clip on the timeline, correct?

    Thanks,

    Devin.

You can Matchframe each instance of that shot on the timeline and then with your Source monitor now active, press Enter having previously typed either +5 or -5 into the numeric keypad. Then press Replace and you are back in sync. Make sure you have just the Video tracks hi-lighted.

No, my method would just show you the already edited clips in the timeline. Then park on that clip in the timeline with video track highlighted and use the < or > key to slip the shot. No need to go to trim mode, or re-edit from original sources.

But there are no slip keys in Xpro 4.6- just slip trim mode (without even a keyboard shortcut.)

Actually, the GANG feature makes it even easier to correct this sync problem– no need to matchframe each shot as I described, just use Replace after ganging Composer to Source group clip. Use CTRL+G (“Find Again”) to hop from one out-of-sync shot to next.

Ah…forgot about the no slip keys in Xpress Pro.

I heard they give employees one feature request every year!

It’s better off that way! Better to have user’s feature requests implemented…

    😉
