If you have the Avid codecs installed on your sysytem, the codec is available to any Quicktime aware application.

April 23, 2007 at 11:16 pm in reply to: Third party plugin for DPX import/export?

There is no direct import/export of DPX into Media Composer products. I have used batchconverter (https://www.batchconverter.com/) to convert to a format that does work with Avid (JPEG, TIFF, etc,). The downside to this is any metadata in the files will be lost.

MetaGlue makes MXFactory that converts DPX files into Avid media as well as retain timecode, keykode and other metadata – some of the features may still be in development, but I was using it as part of the demo at NAB. (www.metaglue.com).

Import the FLEx file by translating them via AvidLogExchange into an ALE file. Select VA1A2 in ALE.
Take the XMX3600 EDL and translate the same way via AvidLogExchange into an ALE file.

Import the FLEx file into a bin. Hilight all the clips then select Import from the File menu. In the options for ALE, select “Merge based on known sources.

The result will be subclips that contain all the information from the FLEx and the EDL. Batch capture the FLEx master clips.

I don’t know of any available plug-in that burns in the source unless it was done at time of telecine, transfer, or dub. The best you can give your sound person is the record side EDL with an EDL to reflect back to the sources for that point in time.

Look in the Illusion category of effects and drop the “timecode” on the top track and set the parameters accordingly. It is a render.

April 6, 2007 at 1:12 am in reply to: DF or NDF time code

Film based productions and 24p video will use NDF on the source since it allows for a repeated and consistent relationship between the timecode and the pulldown cadence. DF really matters on the sequence when doing projects over a minute for broadcast as mentioned earlier in order to keep true “clock time”.

Embedded audio is not available as part of the release. You would need to use the AES/EBU connection to get digital audio.

In order to not get digital artifacts, you really need to be in a 23.976 project type – this came in 10.8 I believe. If capturing in 24 – the expected sample rate is 47.952kHz. With the two audio clocks at different rates, there is a chance of digital artifacts in the high frequencies. But it can be done in Meridien based systems.

April 1, 2007 at 11:15 pm in reply to: can i stretch 4:3 footage to fit 16:9?

That should do it – there is also a Pan & Scan effect in the Reformat section of the effects palette. Drop it on, go to the parameters and select 4:3 as source and 16:9 as target and it will do the same thing with the added benefit of a tilt and scan effect to get the best composition for the shot.

Yes, it is in Encore. You need to set it up the encode parameters for the MPEG to have the 16:9 anamorphic flag. The menus and such have their own 16:9 setting at the botton of the properties pane.
