I am about to start digitizing 35mm dailies from digibeta (or dvcam). The film and sound were synced in telecine, so I have the sound on the videotape now. Is it possible to digitize the video and audio via SDI (i.e. a digital pathway) at 48khz and have the audio be use-able? I remember there being a problem with digitizing digital audio with the video because of the reverse pulldown mechanism that goes on inside the avid to get the 29.97 videotape transfer back to true 24.0 fps.

    My system:

Avid Film Composer v. 10.6.0 (Meridian)
    Power Mac G4, 867 MHz
    Mac OS 9.2
    512 MB RAM

Embedded audio is not available as part of the release. You would need to use the AES/EBU connection to get digital audio.

In order to not get digital artifacts, you really need to be in a 23.976 project type – this came in 10.8 I believe. If capturing in 24 – the expected sample rate is 47.952kHz. With the two audio clocks at different rates, there is a chance of digital artifacts in the high frequencies. But it can be done in Meridien based systems.
