Create a third clip by logging it so that the timecode spans all your other clips. use that as part of your group clip. Arrange clips accordingly once in multicam view. Pretty sure that should do it for you.

Duplicate Name column into Labroll. Add labroll as comment into EDL (new with v5). his was done to create FCP compatible EDL’s for Color but FCP should like them as well.

If you align all the clips on V tracks in the timeline in sync as you mentioned, then you are almost there. Go to the head of each clip and enter the record side timecode for that frame in the AucTC1 for each of those clips. Once done for all clips, select all, and group/multigroup and you’re good to go.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t go MXF directly if you have the chance as it will cut down the overall transcode/import process by half as well as not double the number of hard drives.
That being said, Avid QT wrapped DNxHD was the first method by which RED and Avid worked so it is a known method – be sure to import the ALE first, then batch import the QT files into it fort all the metadata preservation goodness.

Can you use the timecode calculator to create a common timecode for each of your sync points and enter it into AuxTC1 then use that for the grouping?

Have you tried an application like MPEG Streamclip to transcode to a QT wrapped Avid DNxHD codec and then bring it in?

So you just want to transcode to your final resolution? That would speed up the process if you don’t have a lot of footage. Select 1/2 debayer premium and either DNxHD 115 or 175 and transcode away.

16mm is natively a 4:3 aspect ratio format unless you protected and composed for 16:9 when shooting then chose to transfer that way. You can do a pan and scan 16:9 extraction from the 4:3 and that will crop off top and/or bottom or whatever between the two.

I thought it came in v4, but certainly in v5 there is a 1080p/29.97 project type.
