Kona 3 or Compressor

Try an non-control able device setting to see if this is Timecode related issue.

Jerry’s suggestion is good if that is the only way to port the signal from the equipment you have but it is digital to analogue back to digital conversion and not so great for quality. I believe the best digital solution would be to use a CANON H1 and send the Kona the HD-SDI signal if at all possible. This also keeps the Audio/Video together. FC can handle the rest on capture to get you to DVC Pro HD.

What timecode format did you record DF or NDF. What Flavor of HDV are you working with?
I don’t think your storage is to blame. TC break posts have been going on for the past three or more months and I’m going to test to see if changing to NDF TC fixes my issue.
I am capturing right now and my DF timecode has many breaks. I’m capturing from a Sony M25U out of the HDMI port into a Convergent Design MI box into a Kona LHe and capturing in FCS2 as DVC Pro HD 720p to 5-500gig (2.5TB) esata raid zero internal. I can set the M25 to output 720p out of the HDMI port. I get my timecode from FW basic DV into the MI and then then into the Kona RS-422. FC warns me at the end of the tape so I can at least capture.Michael Palmer

I’m not sure anyone has got AVCHD into FCS2. There is another way if your camera has an HDMI out, the camera uncompresses the signal through the HDMI port and you will need an HD-SDI capture card for your G5 together with a Convergent Design HD-Connect MI box and then you can transcode to DVC Pro HD.
I’m sure this wasn’t what you wanted the here but it will be the best transcode solution possible for that format.Good Luck

That is not going to happen, the files do not tranfer in with FC,
they need to converted first and you don’t have the time. You might be able to record hdv to tape and record dv to this m60 or a firestore to do the quick edit. You need to test this.
got to get back to work

Not sure what you meant by re-compress but you should just recapture the already compressed HDV and work as long as you can off line natively.

If you’re trying to work Uncompressed HD off of one drive you will have problems. As far as a lower rez (smaller files) you might as well load the original HDV in for off line editing then reconnect the uncompressed to that sequence when you ready to on line. I don’t know of any other solution for you.

With Sony HDV you can shoot 30p and the images are taken in true progressive form then the signal is interlaced (split into fields) before it comes to any port or the HDV processor. All Sony HDV units are interlaced, but the sensors of each field are capturing at the same time. What you will capture is 1080i 60 or 50, but the progressive look is on the tape.

Depending on the equipment you can put your hands on here is two ways to get there. I like #2 as the cleanest.
#1) If you have the original raw media and project file (assuming your using FC) open the project and export this HDV sequence to HD Cam in the same time base of the original media. Then re-import for finishes.
#2) Or if you have the capabilities to recapture into HD Cam from the original HDV tapes digitally then this would be better yet. JVC Makes a deck with HDMI out and together with another converter (Convergent Design HD-Connect MI) you can convert in real time with hardware completely digital to HD Cam using HD-SDI into the Kona card.
