    OK,

maybe I’m jut a bit tired and not figuring this out or there’s somethig I’m missing. I’m working in a sort of draft mode next couple of days. I’m dealing with uncompressed HDV footage in a edit system using non-raided SATA drives. I need to adjust my settings to work in low quality or draft mode to edit without hiccups until I go back to the master edit suite for full quality output. The problem? For some reason, my setting options in my RT menu only give me ‘play base layer only’. I don’t see safe rt, unlimited rt, playback quality low, medium, high, and so forth.

Am I missing something? I’ve checked user settings to see if I disable something or other. I’m just tired of messing with it. Asking a fellow expert (although don’t feel like one right now) to offer advice. thank you!

Uncompressed HDV is an oxymoron. It’s data rate is no higher than DV. I can’t see the point of working in offline with this material.

If you have used a codec that doesn’t allow real-time playback when you won’t see dynamic RT functions. What codec did you specify for your draft mode?

    All the best,

If you’re trying to work Uncompressed HD off of one drive you will have problems. As far as a lower rez (smaller files) you might as well load the original HDV in for off line editing then reconnect the uncompressed to that sequence when you ready to on line. I don’t know of any other solution for you.

    Thanks for the responses,

the guy who ingested the HDV footage yesterday in the master edit suite wasn’t sure what to do so he just did uncompressed 1080i. Although it has definite iframe advantages (M. Palmer explained to me yesterday), It’s not necessary to have it at this resolution at this stage. We’re also NOT using any HDCAM.

i had already decided to recompress the material to HDV 1080i 60 and work with it that way. I will still retain the source footage for relinking when I return to the master suite. Please tell me if I’m thinking incorrectly or if I’m forgetting something.

    thanks again for the input!

Not sure what you meant by re-compress but you should just recapture the already compressed HDV and work as long as you can off line natively.
