If you could purchase a device to encode mpeg2 HDV would anyone here want to use it?

No
ProRez has many setting to match the incoming signal while capturing.
Good Luck

I believe you should convert this to DVC Pro HD or ProRez to key with. You should work with an all I-frame codec and a4:2:2 color space.
BTW the key light on his face is opposite the background image, just the Gaffer in me….Good Luck

Perhaps you can try resetting the i-link/firewire port to HDV one more time on the camera. In most Sony HDV units you need to control the firewire output yourself, it is NOT an automatic detection deal, and it needs to be reset without the FW cable connected to make the change. So just for kicks turn off the camera and computer and disconnect the firewire cable. Turn on the camera in VTR mode and open the menu, find and enter the rec in/out, find and open the i-link conv, and set this to OFF for HDV. Reconnect the FW cable and reboot the computer, open L&C
Hopefully this is your issue.

I would absolutely buy the Convergent Design MI or perhaps you could save a buck with the Nano Connect if the RS-422 is on the deck. Call Mike Schell at CD, he is really great. There is no comparison to digital and the sound and timecode never get separated. I’m sure you will be happy with this combo.
Good Luck

The tech support is hands down the best you can find.

If you are looking at the HDV models that have an HD-SDI connection then all you need is a cable into the LHe. I use the Sony V1U’s HDMI connection together with the Convergent Design HD-Connect MI that converts to HD-SDI into my LHe. Convergent Design and AJA have been great products for me.
As to the problems of JVC and Canon I can’t comment on these units but I have read plenty of issues over the last year with FINAL CUT. MAINLY CAPTURE ISSUES THAT YOU WILL AVOID by using the LHe.
There are many good reasons for purchasing HDV, I hope you research all the flavors first before you dive in. For me I like knowing I have some compatibility from other company’s and decks available from the manufacturer who makes my camera. Sony is that company for me. I know Canon doesn’t make a deck and the f mode is its own flavor. JVC does make a deck for its own flavor.
You may find working with AJA’s VTR Exchange capture program easier for capturing HD-SDI as it allows time code in on this connection as FC does not.
Good Luck

July 18, 2007 at 2:27 pm in reply to: more on mixing HDV and HDCam, and HDV and XDCamNo Problems, however I finished up and was between projects when I reloaded. I can move the media from FCS1 on to the mounted drive and work with it without issue in FCS2. Some people believe this wiping and reloading is a by annual necessity.

If you are looking for someone to tell you that you need FCS2 then here I am. If you are using firewire for capturing then perhaps you don’t need the capture card, just the MXO for quality monitoring.MP
