The beauty of the V1 is that it shoots 24p and immediately gets converted to 60i with 3:2 pull down added keeping a film look and easy editing 60i. You never need to remove the pull down unless your are really going to a film output. I’m shooting with my V1 @30p right now for a new show and I really like this image, its a very solid look. Just forget this removal jazz working with the V1 unless you really need to get to 24 frames.

August 22, 2007 at 3:39 am in reply to: Problems with Kona AJA 3 and FCP video playbackI would call Jerry @ AJA tech support, this sounds like an issue of the wrong resolution settings (a corrupt file from either FC or Kona) for the media being played. I would think he will have you trash both FC and AJA preferences, reload the AJA drivers and start a new project. Call Jerry in the morning.

Doesn’t the br-hd50 deck support the 1080i Z1 footage for play back and capture? If not it is really to bad there are so many different flavors of HDV. How is the JVC to MI working for you?
I love my M25 to MI into my Kona LHe, the footage is amazing.Michael Palmer

Depending on what the final output is would bewhat I would convert to on capture using the component connection. You cancapture andoff linenarive HDV then recapture to what you need if drive space is an issue.
For an all digital transcode in real time you should look into the Convergent Design HD-Connect SI that takes the HDV over FW and converts to HD-SDI

August 21, 2007 at 8:14 pm in reply to: HDV project not showing all frames on external monitorYou need an HD cpture card to monitor HDV. The cheapest way out is a Black Magic Intensity card together with an LCD using HDMI.

According to this article it would seem this camera does have a firewire port. Keep looking. I’m sure there is a 4 pin firewire/i-link somewhere. You should use the easy setup DV Pal 50i

I believe you can take a DV signal (as if you were down converting HDV to DV) out of the Firewire port off the camera/deck straight into the Mac and setup the device control for DV in the L&C Capture settings tab and set the Capture Input as DVC Pro HD.

I assume you are capturing native over firewire, is there any other way that you can capture, component into a capture card????
Is this the only tape you have an issue with?.Michael Palmer

I was only trying to add my opinion for what I believe is the best possible all digital transcode and to add another alternative to the question. Quality is subjective right?
Meaning what’s your opinion.Jerry Hoffman has been incredibly generous to my self and so many others working with HDV and DCV Pro HD. Jerry has answered my emails and he even has taken my calls with questions. I believe Jerry has even given the same suggestion as I have here.
You say “there’s really no reason to go out of your way to get an HD-SDI signal if you don’t have one” and I said “Jerry’s suggestion is good if that is the only way to port the signal from the equipment you have”. I believe these statements to be the same. I never said to go purchase anything.
You have suggested you have only worked with analogue “for every HDV project brought into the shop”. I’m sure this is a solid flow and it works for your shop, but it is my opinion that you would see a difference with and the all digital way I suggested.
Please review the OP’s question “What is the BEST way to capture this material to work in my current sequence?” This was only my OPINION.
