I’m providing tech support for a friend tonight and I am at my wits end. Problem is FCP will not recognize the deck. He gets an “unable to initialize deck” message.
These are the specs as I know them:
    G5
    OS 10.4.10
    QT 7.2
    FCP 6.0.1
    Sony DSR-25

What I’ve had him do so far:
-make sure on DV-NTSC easy set up
-external video is on “all frames”
    -trashed FCP prefs.
-deck is connected and input is set to DV

Is there a problem with QT 7.2?

I’m doing this over the phone but will probably go over there tommorow.

Try an non-control able device setting to see if this is Timecode related issue.

    Good Luck

Turns out it was a bad FW cable. Wow, never seen that before but when he used a different cable all was completely fine. I’m just glad he thought of that before we started uninstalling and reinstalling OS, FCP, QT etc.
